Title: Did people think you were gay when you presented as a "male"?

Everyone thought I was gay. Once my boyfriend and I kissed each other at the mall and these guys called us "f*gs" and called me a "fairy".
I can't believe anyone ever thought I was gay, I looked like this:
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-snc6%2F151078_173021052720528_100000379048523_434034_5720585_n.jpg&hash=165c84c5a28fa61171510f4c4f1ef1b8ff4fb4d4)
That boy could have killed a man with his bear hands.

I think people might think I'm gay based on how I dress. I guess the term is metro.
It's because I get all of my clothes here:

I learned how to fight pretty quick, but I did take a few hard hits for it too! I had a group of friends, all girls and by the time I was 15, all the boys wanted to know my secret on how I got to hang out with all of them pretty girls!lol

YES!!
And it frustrated me greatly. Especially since I got beat up for being perceived as being gay all thoughout my childhood. How could you love something that always hurt you?
I had a lot of female friends though so I was somewhat happy. until I became a teenager. Then I hid in the house as much as I could.

In high school, all the time. I went to a religious school, and more than once I had teachers ask if I was "struggling with homosexuality."
I was, just not in the way they meant. ;D

Yeah I would hear people whisper "that guys gay" just cause I didn't act like a guy and chase after women lol. I was never really "out" to most people though and my over all personality was more androgynous. I didn't walk around snapping my fingers talking like your typical effeminate gay nor was that butch gay guy either. Most of the flings I had with men were kept private from my family and friends.
My teenage years were very awkward...

It was so cruel it was kinda funny.

I can understand why. I barely had any peach fuzz on my face at that age. All the guys in my class shaved or were beginning to 'cultivate' their side boards. I didnt need to shave until my early 20's. You looked to me to be a fun person to hang out with actually.

Pretty much everyone since I was 10. Well... those that didn't think I was a girl anyway.
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to say "no" without sounding like a judgmental ass.

I got it a few times but never in a overly mean way. I was much like Annah with the facial hair, still am actually heh. So people didn't judge me on appearance for it instead I would get it from girls I was friends with. They just couldn't believe a guy could be straight and care to talk normal with them instead of trying to hook up. "You're not gay? But you are so nice and easy to talk to!" Yeah, I didn't mind really because hey I got to hang around a bunch of women, just cause I didn't hit on them doesn't mean I didn't like them, I just had respect for them and saw them as friends.

Yeah, throughout junior school and high school people called me/thought I was gay (in junior school I even got called a girl a lot; little did they know). And now in university I've been asked if I'm gay multiple times within the first like few months.
I find it odd because I'm not like flamboyant or anything, I mean sure I have feminine mannerism but it's not over the top flamboyancy.

I was sometimes called gay due to some of my comments, but that was more in a jokingly manner. I was never actually considered gay, or anything else for that matter, because I never flirted with any girl / guy, or even stared at / after anyone.

I was thought of as gay in high school. It wasn't until someone pointed out that my mannerisms came across as "flamboyant" that I actually understood why... I didn't have a clue; I didn't dress or look feminine after all (as I believe it). It probably didn't help that I declined the girls that asked me out, either. Or that I only hung around girls and gays.
It didn't matter though. If people wanted to think I was gay, I let them know they were welcome to it. I never really got bullied for that or anything else, though I was certainly a bit of an outcast.

I was bullied badly as a child for being very effeminate, but kids (or at least kids here) don't really equate femininity with homosexuality at that age, so I just got "sissy" and the like. And by the time I was old enough that people would see feminine mannerisms and assume I was gay, I had learned to be on my guard, and was so paranoid about showing any part of my real self to others that I probably ended up doing a rather good job of being a "normal teenage boy".
In recent years, though, I've grown much more confident about who I am, and a lot more open about expressing my femininity. And I had a whole bunch of people (mostly girls I was friends with, like Amalina said) ask me if I was gay in the space of my first year of university. Not in a hostile way, of course. Just a curious one.

Most people I think did when I was between 9 and 12 because I had quite feminine mannerisms. No one mentioned before because I was in an all boys school till I was 9. It became much more obvious when I moved to a mixed school. People pay quite a bit of attention to the behaviour of the "new kid" and I started getting bullied over it. That's when I started to "Man-Up", worst decision I ever made, now I have to re-learn everything I was doing naturally 10 years ago :P
Since then though a few people have assumed I am and absolutely anyone believes it if they're told. If a friend of mine tells someone who only just met me that I'm gay they will invariably believe it (I take it as a compliment, and an indication that I may have a "feminine aura" whatever that is). I think it comes from the fact that I'm usually closer to and more comfortable around women, and I have no interest in sport really. Now we all know that has nothing to do with gender or sexuality but it does conform to many peoples stereotypes.

Yes, I was thought to be gay - BUT IN THE CLOSET!
Then I had a gay male friend for years, really JUST FRIENDS, but that did it.
Mostly in the family it was mentioned behind the hand (undercover) and caused quite some stink when I finally turned out MtF.
It really just TOOK THE CAKE!
Axelle
PS: my gay friend did get his mercy-->-bleeped-<- though in the end, he'd waited long enough and so I had some girl compassion on him...

No I was pushing the macho thing back in the day, body building, martial arts and wrestling were my thing but the fact that I'm a women kept popping up.
Now it's a balancing act, and I wouldn't really hang a label on myself, if I had to I would say Bisexual with a preference towards men only because most women like men :-)

During my college time, many straight boys are considered gay just because they are skinny and a bit soft looking ;D
But,to the sarcasm, effeminate looking guy are very popular in china.they are described as "flower like beautiful man"
Me,as a example, was often be invited out for a date by girls, although I'm sucks at sports.

In my country (china),many people equaled "effeminate" to "well educated"
Strange ,but for me,that's good :D

I was always considered gay. Even my (grand) parents did. That is why they set me up with my current wife even (as a gayness test).
I didn't wear makeup I didn't prance around (as far as I am aware), but I nevered proved otherwise so they all assumed it. When our oldest con got pushed into t-ball by my aunt, it turned out that the coach was an old classmate (not friend since I hung out with the the ib students and he was a shop person). Hr was STUNNED that not only had I gotten married, but we had children and I wasn't cruising sex spots on the sly. Those meetings were so awkward because the male parents I knew I hated from school and the female ones were airheads and treated me as gay even then. I always had to just sit with Shannon or by myself because no one knew what to so with me. I'd love to run into that coach again once my FFS swelling goes downto just see the smoke pour out of his narrow little minds.
