Well? Were you in the Boy or Girl Scouts? To what degree? How did you feel about it?

No but I remember wanting to join boy scouts when they were giving out the pamphlets and stuff when I was in elementary school.

I wanted to go when I was 6, but we couldn't afford the gear or to keep up and go to camps and stuff, so I didn't. That's also why I never went to ballet.
Instead, there was a drama group for 50p a week just down the road, so I went there and had a great time.

They gave out Boy Scout pamphlets in class one day to all the boys and I passed and got a pamphlet - I was so happy and couldn't wait to join, until my teacher saw and "corrected the mistake" and took my pamphlet. My mother got me into Girl Scouts and I quit after two meetings - nothing there for me whatsoever.

No, but I've always wanted to join the boy scouts.
My little brother was in it, and I'd through tantrums about it.
Even now I wish I could have been in it and still be.
I just love all that survival nature stuff.
Just another thing I had to pass because I'm trans.

I was a Cub Scout and then a Webelo. I enjoyed it, had a lot of fun and learned some pretty cool stuff.
One Halloween costume party was where I first saw a contemporary crossdressing, I was soooo jealeous.
The next year, (having had the conversation) my Mama refused my request to go to the party in a dress.

I was a Boy Scout, made it all the way to Eagle. I really had a great time with it, too. I enjoy camping, hiking, woodscraft, and all of that outdoorsy tree huggery. My first pocketknife was a royal blue Cub Scout knife. I still have it. :D I also enjoyed the stress on providing community service, it was my introduction to one way of making me feel good about myself.

I was in some sort of Girl scouts at school. I eventually quit that and joined the boys and girls club where I had much more fun.

This reminds me of something which a scout leader said to me during my brief career there.
The details are a bit hazy, but I had said somethign about it being rough, smelly, bad tempered and stupid.
I recall, he asked me, infront of the troop, if I would prefer the guides, (UK equivalent of the Girl Scouts I believe). Though this wasn't a serious question at all, rather intended to humiliate.
He then said that no-one likes the rough stuff, we'd all prefer an easy time like the guides, but we just have to get use to it.
It occurred to me that, if he didn't like it either, then why would he do it?

I was in the Boy Scouts and loved it. I went to summer camp twice, lots of winter camping weekends, too. Good training for the Army, we did plenty of winter camping there. Hugs, Devlyn

I was a cub scout but I quit before moving on to boy scouts. They got so much stricter then, and it was definitely meant for manlier boys, instead of boys who would later find out they shouldn't have even been a boy.
And I never would have joined if I knew how openly anti-gay and anti-atheist they are.

Boy Scouts, 2 1/2 years, 1963-1965. Tenderfoot to second class. Fox Patrol. We moved out of the area and I didn't rejoin in the local chapter, it was too far from home. We had a regional jamboree in town one year. We and the Girl Scouts, Brownies, Cub Scouts did wear our uniforms on certain days of the year to school. A lot didn't make it to Eagle Scout, they joined ROTC instead.

I kinda wondered if there would be any other Eagle Scouts out there. I got my Eagle shortly after I turned 16 and pretty much just spent the rest of the time just attending camping trips or doing things I wanted to.

I never wanted to be in the Cub scouts, my parents (probably my mother) forced me for one year. That was all I could stand, I got out happily.
Just as they forced me to play little league baseball for one year.
These things were just not me.

'Cuz he was taught by manly men that manly men do "rough, smelly, bad tempered and stupid stuff"
to prove they are manly men 'cuz that is what manly men do.

I was in Girl Scouts for about 8 years. It was okay. We did a lot of camping and preparing stuff for younger kids, which was fun. My brother did Cub Scouts for a while and really hated it, so I don't know if it would have been better.

I was in cub scouts; and in boy scouts for a short while. My father worked many miles from where we lived and was gone frequently so my mother took me to the meetings. I never was able to go camping or do other scouting activities because my father was working. I eventually quit because of that; i saw no reason to continue when i couldn't do the "real" scouting stuff.
I was unaware of my gender issues at that time so the thought of wanting to be in girl scouts instead of boy scouts never crossed my mind.

I was in Girl Scouts in elementary school, and again in a different troop in junior high and high school. The second troop was awesome; we didn't have meetings or earn badges or sell cookies, we just went on the camping trips.

In Boy Scouts, alas got fired after on outing!
Did they know something I didn't at that time --- for BOYS only?
Now I'm thinking...

I was in the scouting program, there were good times and bad :-\ The program I was in was run through the church my parents belong to so the good times were often overshadowed by allot of B.S. politicking and 'Reindeer games'
The scout master was often one of the other scout's dads who were more interested in promoting their own egos and making jr. and his buddy look good while they crapped on and made things more difficult for everyone else
Most of the time it was much like school and/or church where someone was always trying pick on you and you had to avoid a couple of perv.s that would try to molest you :P Otherwise it was good times

I was in Girl Scouts. :3 I loved it very much, though I also wanted to be in Boy Scouts because they did more cool things. I wouldn't trade the experience of Girl Scouts for anything, though. I learned a lot there that has helped me.

I did it right up until I was 16, then I bought a car and started taking myself camping.

I was in Boy Scouts and hated every second of it
Somehow, I forced myself to get Eagle Scout just to impress my dad or something
not a day passed after I finished the requirements for it before i came out to my parents
guess i was done pretending

I regret not having an experience like this in my childhood, though perhaps it's just as well. I was an outcast in school from Kindergarten to twelve - I doubt an extra-curricular environment would have been any better. And if it was male-only, it might have been dangerous.
Not having a girl-only experience makes me feel a little hollow at times, but there's plenty of time in the future to remedy that I suppose.

I can relate to much of what Kelly said above. I was put in Girl Scouts for a little while but then refused to go because I didn't feel I belonged there. I've had buddies who were in Boy Scouts all the way through high school and I was always so envious.

Aw, I'm not a "troo man" ;)
I always wanted to be in the girl scouts. :P It sounded much more fun than camping, which I was barely interested in. (Didn't know the boy scouts actually did funner stuff!)
I honestly was only interested in them for their cookies, though. XD
