Title: Men's sunglasses
Post by: Kreuzfidel on January 13, 2012, 12:31:33 AM
I don't know why, but I've found that when I wear my sunnies I often get clocked.  I'm wondering if it's the shape of my face and the shape of my sunnies. I usually wear this style:      (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi584.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss285%2Fwholesalegift%2FSunglasses%2Fy22-42.jpg&hash=d5e044df50396cbcfb5a87183006157d10a0c923)     What style do you usually wear and have you ever had passing issues because of it?  Any suggestions on styles for Kreuz the fashion-comatosed?

Kreuz, if you could show us a picture of you wearing them, people might be able to give you an honest opinion. Usually with glasses, it's not always the shape of glasses, but also how they look on your face shape, so.

I'd bump into things if I wore sunglasses.

That style there does seem attention-grabbing though. Maybe people are just looking closer more often?

Thanks, guys.  Jason, here you go:    (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi762.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fxx266%2FMouse5479%2FImg345600AE.jpg&hash=7de72bf38e421afaaefa54fa373007c4ced3d4d6)    Felix, that's a good point.  Maybe it just draws too much attention to my face?  Hmmm.

They look perfectly normal to me...but maybe I'm just not experienced enough seeing people wearing sunglasses, not living in a really sunny area.
All I can ever think about is that old horror movie with the giant fly.

Maybe the frames are just too big for your face? They look like the lenses stick out on the sides a bit, which usually happens with women's glasses.

That's a good observation, Anon.  I think I'm going to get some ordinary frames that don't wrap around, maybe like aviator sunnies.  Maybe they will fit a bit better.

That was my first thought too. I have sunglasses like that and mine are way too wide for my face. Makes me look like a goofy little kid most of the time.

I'm pretty fashion-comatose myself, so take my opinions on this with a grain of salt. And I live in the Pacific Northwest. Today we had a few rays of sunshine and everybody was like 'omg what beautiful weather.'

Still, I think you look pretty male in that picture. Not a style I've seen a lot but not something I'd look twice at or question.

I'm always perplexed when some item I wear seems to make me pass less.

imo....the glasses you have on now are too rounded. (Unless your brows are above the top edge of the glasses?)

Guys (at least, in my world) tend to wear more angular glasses. I used to wear these until recently...

Huh, it's usually the opposite for me. I never get clocked with my sunglasses on, since they cover the most feminine part of my face - eyes. Still, that's a little odd, because you don't look particularly female in the glasses... I dunno, it's just weird how the smallest things can determine whether we pass or not.

I live in Florida, so I get a ton of sun down here. Generally, I wear Ray-Ban Aviators, and they're pretty boss.  8)

Same. My eyes will always make me a pretty boy. When I was Pre-T and wasn't trying to look androgynous anymore though, this became a pain in the arssyar. If I didn't wear glasses  or if I wasn't the most spastic person on Earth & could actually manage to get contacts without my needle-length eyelashes poking me in cornea, I seriously would've became one of those idiots who ends up wearing sunglasses indoors for no reason whatsoever, but y'know.

lulz.

I'm unfortunately useless in this arena, I wear the bigass sunglasses. Always have, the small more masculine ones just look awful on me.

Thanks heaps for the suggestions, everyone.  I'll have a look next time I'm at the store and try a new style.  I'll post up a photo when I do and see if it looks better :)

I don't think there's anything about those sunglasses that would make you not pass.
Even in that picture I thought you looked totally male.

I don't know what would look good on your face, or what would help you pass better.
but personally, I like these sunglasses,

Usually if you have a more rounded face, you go for a more angular frame, and if you have a more angular face, a more rounded frame. With that said, I don't have any sunglasses because I have prescription lenses and can't use contacts (the whole fingers near eyes thing freaks me out). Just not worth it for me to by sunglasses.

JohnAlex-- I just ordered a pair of that exact style this afternoon.  I'm pretty much only gonna wear them for driving and keep them in the car permanently since I have Transitions (I can't stand carrying around two pairs of glasses, but I work outdoors in the summer and NEED sunglasses.  I went one summer without the Transitions and will never do that again.  Totally worth the extra $60 for me).  Hope they look ok on me...  That's always a problem when ordering on the internet, but where else can you get prescription sunglasses for under $30?

Nygeel-- You should check out some of the online glasses places.  I've heard good things about them.  I just ordered from goggles4u this afternoon-- the whole pair with my prescription plus shipping was only 27 something.  It makes having a pair of sunglasses much more worth it.
