Title: Back to therapist after running for a year
Post by: Korra on January 13, 2012, 01:00:34 PM
So i'm about to set an appointment to go back to my gender therapist i found that I haven't been to in over a year.  I went for about 5 sessions before but  quit due to various reasons.  First, my parents were...not very supportive to say the least.  Secondly, my gf and I broke up so I had to move back in with my parents who made it such a pain i stopped going.  Something bout being woken up in the middle of hte night to be reminded im ruining my life and the life of those around me isn't very positive.  Finally, the therapy sessions were super expensive and she seemed to get me off topic most of the time wasting the session talking about unrelated matters.

I'm planning to go back because shes really the only therapist I've found who deals with this kind of stuff so I'm going to have to buckle under I guess.  I have united healthcare which is supposed to cover it, at least a chuck of the cost but they haven't been the most cooperative.  Sorry for mini-rant just nervous and fearing for my already low student bank account.

Hi haven,

Good to hear you're getting clarity and direction back into your journey. If nothing else for your own peace of mind. Therapy is a two way street, and if you feel the direction is going off course, you can always question where this particular strategy is going, and if you don't think it appropriate, you can always redirect to more realistic discussion. After all, you're the one paying.

Hope it works out well for you.

Be safe, well and happy
Lotsa huggs
Catherine

Good to hear you're getting back in to therapy. My therapy sessions delved in to all sorts of things that seemed unrelated, it's one of the things that they do to help make sure that there are no issues other than gender issues.. It's not unusual at all..

Ah sorry for late response I forgot I had this post up.  So since this post I've had a few sessions and they've been going pretty good.  There are still some awkward moments when she wants me to describe how I want HRT to affect my body cause its...idk weird to tell someone.  Alas, I have told her everything and she has agreed to give me my referral letter and the appropriate paperwork after my next visit, so woo!

So now I only have to worry about the doctor stuff.  How long does it normally taking after seeing an endo before you can start on hormones?  I know I need to have a blood test done and other associated procedures or whatever htey need but kinda looking at ballpark.  I feel like the inbetween starting hormones and therapy is killing me.  Starting to get huge panic attacks about passing and whatnot so hoping once I start HRT i can just kinda get it off my mind for a while.  :P

I don't know what your situation is locally, but  my endo wrote the initial prescription and I had it filled on the way home.

How convenient that it lines their pockets at the same time!

There were only 2 sessions where my therapist delved in to seemingly unrelated things, while he was getting the whole 'life story' thing.. Which is pretty much what he should have done - you can't adequately help someone if you don't have some background to work with...

And as far as lining his pockets goes, I've dutifully paid my Medicare Levy for years and have pretty much not cost them a thing - it's about time I got some value for money..

My health insurance has been pretty useless so far.  It partially pays for my therapist since shes a specialist or something and I have to self file it which is a pain in the ass.  I called and set my doctors appointment for next week and she started throwing off numbers like 200$ for this and if he draws blood itll be an extra 100$ and I was pretty stunned.  She told me in most cases health insurance doesn't cover it.  First of all, i looked it up and it said it did cover it, and since when ws getting my blood checked not a health insurance thing?  I go wednesday so lets hope it goes well.
