Using the search features of this forum is a good place to start, so is talking to your doctor. None of us are therapists or doctors.

Hello Jason,
Epi has made a fine suggestion. The search feature should help you quite a bit. We also can't help you much because every place has different requirements for starting hormones. You may have to go through a therapist or a GP. Some doctors do it through informed consent. It also depends on whether or not you are a minor, in which case you'd need your parent(s) or guardian(s) help.

It depends where you live, too. In some places you're legally required to see a therapist for a certain amount of time before you can even get on T.

Ask your general practitioner what he or she requires. Most doctors want you to undergo a certain amount of talk therapy and bring a letter from the therapist. Most doctors follow the WPATH soc (http://www.wpath.org/publications_standards.cfm (http://www.wpath.org/publications_standards.cfm)). In the US there are very few laws pertaining to hormone therapy, and your physician will be the main gatekeeper.
I would check out ftmguide.org (http://ftmguide.org). Probably the most comprehensive, rational, and up-to-date site you'll find for basic transition info.
The search feature on this site is not very good. You can get better results finding questions that have already been answered by going to google and typing your search term plus site:susans.org. You could use "starting testosterone site:susans.org" for example.

find a therapist that has experience with trans people they will eventually write you a letter of recommendation to an endocrinologist the endo will do some baseline tests then start you on T. this proces can be very long or rather short.
