A "Gender Identity Committee" will decide where a transgender woman with an extensive criminal record will be housed after she was sentenced this week to four years in prison on felony retail theft, battery and violation of probation charges, authorities said.

10 years in transition.  Some HRT.

10 felony convictions, mostly theft of female, attire, accessories, and make-up.

The article does not say how far along she is, but that she had been housed with the male inmate population before.

If she has all her male genitalia, and if its functional (i.e. she could impregnate a female inmate), she can not be very well housed with the women.

If she is housed with the male population, she will be subjected to repeated rapes and sexual harassment.

Should either of those scenes play out, Cook County could probably be sued.

Then there is always solitary confinement.  With her criminal history, house arrest, or some sort of diversion program, probably would not work.

If she is sexually functional, perhaps Cook County can provide her with chemical castration, or an orchiectomy (if she is willing).  In the long run, it might be the most cost-effective solution.

I agree, Jamie. That's pretty well thought out and probably the cheapest and safest way.
