Title: Advice for hips and thighs
Post by: fatalerror on January 26, 2012, 12:09:52 PM
I've always had wide hips and unfortunately carry a lot of weight there. I'm not on hormones yet and don't plan to be for some time - so while I know that could help redistribute it, does anyone have any tips for handling it now?

For starters I do a lot of weight lifting and working out, mostly on an eliptical, and I avoid fatty foods in favor of foods high in protein as much as possible. Are there particular workouts that you've found helpful? I wear my jeans pretty low on my hips which helps a little. I've seen that FTM Underworks has some sort of hip compression shorts, has anyone tried that? Comfortable? Useful? Not really?

well, I just focus my working out on my hips and and upperbody, seached on the net for losing fat on those parts and got diffrent results and tried out some.
by gaining mucles up there and getting bigger" while losing fat downstairs and being "smaller" I got the felling it will help,

however its not that easy and you might not be able to get rid of it no matter how hard you try, it depends on how big your hips are.
im trying to lose fat, but in fact I am pretty skinny so even if I lose all my body fat down the hips then they will still be slightly bigger than cis-males.

Here's what I've done. YMMV. I am not a personal trainer or expert of any kind.

You cannot remove fat from one specific area of the body through exercise. What you can do is reduce overall body fat and either tone or bulk up specific muscle groups. I find that hip abductor/adductor machines are good for toning and firming the outline of the thighs, including right up at the hip, so they don't look as soft and feminine. Focusing on my external obliques along with abs (try planks, sit-ups, twisting situps, twisting Roman chair, or lower back incline on your side) helped tone my waist and gave me less of an hourglass shape and more of a masculine shape. Cardio is great for losing fat, but not for gaining muscle, so I do cardio and weights usually, alternating between upper body and lower body/core to reduce my body fat while maintaining muscle.

I did all of this stuff pre-T, and while it helped, it can't do miracles. Bone is bone--it ain't gonna go anywhere. If you have a wide pelvis (as more cismen than you'd think do) you're going to always have a wide pelvis. However, remember that you are probably much harder on your appearance than anyone else you ever meet will be.

I'm pre-T, with hips that are mostly fat.

I lift weights and have noticed that deadlifts, squats, leg presses, leg curls, and leg extensions have helped replace the fat with muscle in that particular area and make things a little smaller. Running is good, too.

Granted, you can't change the bone structure underneath the muscle and fat, but you can work what's above it and help change the way it looks, possibly relieving some of your anxiety regarding that area.

I bought one of these and it helps a little to tighten things up, but doesn't significantly reshape anything.  If you're less of a fat ass than I am, it might help you a bit more.   :D  I found it acceptably comfortable to wear even at work (and my job is not a sedentary one, so).

I just bought the underworks 967, which is basically a one-piece shorts and shirt binder.  and at least for my body, it works really well to straighten out my curves from my thighs to my chest.
