Title: Satori World Medical? (SRS Global Transgender Program)
Post by: Dora on January 30, 2012, 12:35:26 PM
I should have my SRS letter from my psychologist by the end of the week and I have tentatively scheduled my surgery with Dr. Saran in August.

In my ongoing research I came across a company called Satori World Medical which seems to be a travel service for people interested in medical services in various places around the world.  Their transgender services list two Thailand hospitals. (Unfortunately, Dr. Saran is not on the list. His teacher, Dr. Preecha is.)  They promise to take care of all the details before, during and after the surgery and at a 30 to 50% discount.  I'm still sold on Dr. Saran and I haven't signed the bottom line yet so it may be worth a phone call.  However, I'd like to get some info on them first before doing so.  Anyone here have any experience with them as a client?

I've spoken with Kevin Poling from Satori quite a few times for business referral reasons. I've known a few clients that have used him and they were happy with the service and results they got. That's the extent of my dealings with them. Satori, Kevin and another rep usually, do participate in trans conferences and such throughout the country on a regular basis. It would be worth talking to them probably. Good luck :)

Thanks Kim, her videos were helpful.

In one video she mentioned her cost was approx $11,500 for her surgery, flight and hotel.  I was budgeting $12,000 for Dr. Saran so it's certainly doable.  She reports being very happy with the entire process and her results.  She had thought her surgeon would be Dr. Preecha but he was out of town at the time so Dr. Burin (???) did her SRS.  That seemed a little strange to me.  Time for more research...

Not having to go through all the details is a nice thought so I called Satori.  Everyone seems to be happy with Kevin Poling so I planned on asking for him. (866-613-9686 - Option #1)  Turned out I got Kevin's voice mail so I left him a callback message.  I'll report back after talking with him.

BTW, Kevin is going to be giving a seminar at the Colorado Gold Rush late March this year if you want to meet him.

After talking with Kevin last week I decided to go ahead with Satori World Medical.  I found him to be very helpful with all the questions and concerns I had.  Plus, he's already bent over backwards on a couple of issues too.  And surprisingly, within a week I had lined up my SRS date.  It is scheduled for June 5th at PAI hospital. (!!!)

If you have any concerns about Satori I'd recommend leaving a message on YouTube to April Wilks.  She had her SRS through Satori/Kevin and she has been a valuable resource for my "trivial" questions. (e.g., how did you handle ______".)

Most everything taken care of and $400.00 less than what I had budgeted.  Nice!

I just hung up with Kevin and he is my neighbor; right behind me.  I had met Kevin at SCC in 2009 & 2010 when I lived in Dallas, TX and since moving to San Diego we have chatted on FB about having coffee or something although just never happened.

One I reviewed his email last night I realized this is Kevin Polling and as we say in the South "He is good people".  When it's time to make a change the universe will tell you and I see this as a HUGE sign.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Hi Chris,  I signed with Satori a couple of months ago and I am now 5 1/2 weeks from my SRS.  I've got nothing to say but good about SWM and Kevin.  I met Kevin at the Colorado Gold Rush a month ago and spent the afternoon with him at his booth.  It was nice to put a face to the voice.  Also, I am in contact with a former client who had her SRS a year ago.  She has been very helpful in answering the questions I don't want to bother Kevin with.  If you're interested in talking to her about her experiences with SWM and Thailand you can find her on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egOd2tjuVEM&feature=g-user-c

Anyway, good luck on your journey!

Dora, I am very excited for you!! I may look into this company for my eventual SRS, and its lovely to hear such first hand accounts of good experiences...

My best advice for your long flight...lip balm! Be SURE to bring it as the cabin recirculated air is very dry, and will really take a toll on long international flights. Lots of airline have it available by request, or distributed to passengers in comfort kits...just be sure to use it. Oh and take as many walks as possible...people have gotten very dangerous blood clots from the prolonged periods of sitting on such flights.

Thanks for the flying tips.  I rarely cross the state line so crossing the Pacific is going to be an exciting adventure.  So far so good on Satori.  I'll report on my experiences with both Satori and my surgery when I return. -Dora

If I may ask, what was the cost?  And what all does it cover?

I might go this way, but I need to have a target.

Thank You, Dora.

Ms. OBrien,

Here is what I paid Satori.  Of course prices can change, especially the flight tickets.  Give Kevin a call when you are ready to look into it.

SRS (Dr. Preecha/Dr. Burin): 9,300.00
Flight:                                 1,784.00
Hotel:                                    800.00 (Approx.)
Psychologist evaluation:           100.00 (For 2nd letter in Thailand)
                                          -----------
Total                                 $11,984.00

I am also taking an extra $200.00 cash for incidental expenses and will have a credit card for "just in case."

Dora

Best thing to do is contact Satori yourself to ask that question. I have met the reps mentioned above for them a couple of years ago, and while I did not ask your question, it seemed like the answer would be that they would take clients world wide. The price issues would of course be in your countries currency, but thats an of course thing.

From the prices above Satori seem to charge a premium for their services. There are many other Thai based services that don't charge anything. I had surgery with PAI in 2010 and the charge then was $8600 and to my knowledge it still is. The consultation with the Thai psych was an additional $25. By the way Dr Burin will usually be the person who performs the surgery whether or not Preecha is there. In my case I has Preecha doing other proceures at the same time. You can book with PAI directly if you don't want to use an agency but the agents do provide a good free service over and above that of the clinic. Try http://srsinthailand.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/gender-reassignment-surgery-tour-in.html (http://srsinthailand.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/gender-reassignment-surgery-tour-in.html).
