ordered a packer, but according to the parcel tracking it's being held due to charges..... never heard of anyone having charges issues on packers before.... anyone else had this happen? it's UK customs.

Yep it's normal. Some countries eg US and AUS have tax treaties. So I live in Aus and when I buy from the US I shouldn't have to pay any custom tax.
So it depends on between which countries the items are being sent and if there is a tax treaty between them or not.
Sorry if I haven't explained too well.

Where was it sent from, the US? I've sold items via eBay and Livejournal to the UK, and usually, unless the shipper marks 'gift' and writes in the value at a very low value(not sure what amount exactly, but I've been told it's under $20US), the buyer has to pay fees/duties to get the item out of customs, and that often, those fees/taxes/duties can be more than they paid for the item. :/

yeah, the US. i've bought a lot of stuff from the US though and this is the first item that's been caught on customs charges, so it took me by surprise. i've come to expect charges coming in from some asian countries, but i'm wondering why they've pulled this item. ah well, i just hope it's not too much.

There might be a maximum spending limit before tax fees start. Wish I understood it all better too.

There are no British webshops that sell the simple packers then? I'd expect one would've popped up by now.
Maybe next time you could try ordering from the Netherlands, we've got a small shop somewhere who ships as well. Only sells the Mr Limpy at the moment though, but she makes binders and such as well.
Edit:
Here's her website http://www.danae.info/en/ (http://www.danae.info/en/)
