Ok, I have not yet been to see a therapist and I have been to trying to "define" myself so to speak. I have not had much success. I stumbled upon the COGIATI a couple of weeks ago and took it. It said I was androgyne. I took it again last night to see if I got the same result and I did. I waited that long so that I wouldn't remember how I answered the questions the first time. How accurate is the test supposed to be? I have looked into it with varied results. I'm not contesting the result I got, it might be right. Just wondering how much stock to put into it...

It would be nice if there was a test that could help us define just like that (or maybe not) but no, the COGIATI depends on a ton of "assumed" male/female differences and stereotypes. It has little real value.

Thanks for the link, it was very informative. I'm a little disappointed in myself for thinking it could be accurate.  :-\ I'm not sure why I feel it so important to "label" myself. It won't change who I am and probably will only raise more questions than it answers...that being said I do feel a strong need to find out... Anywho, thanks again!  ;)

The only two examples I can still find. I think I did it about 4 times over 1+ year RLE...

But you need to take your time go into yourself, not just chop-chop fly over it.

Hate to say this, but a group of us, when I was nursing, tried that very point with ourselves and each other and found all of these question and answer, personality tests were essentially a reflection of what you think and the judgement of the tester.

Hardly self-administered then.  Or - more correctly - a reflection of what you think and the judgement of the tester - is one in the same.  And they have not control like any real scientific test (MMPI for example) does, asking essentially the same question over and over in different ways as a way of gauging the depth of the answer.

I regard the COGIATI more as food for thought and questions to ponder than any sort of analytical test.

This test was originally a heuristic test which "guessed" your gender based on the number of previous people tested then asked your gender.

The questions are mostly ambiguous, and don't have a decidedly male/female answer (like if you shipped a package overseas would you send it by ship or plane?).  The COGIATI test asks questions that have gender bias built in so you have opportunity to slant your answers and sway the test to give you the answer you were looking for.

The BBC test, for me, was the event that opened my eyes to being transsexual.  No matter how I answered, I could not get it to register me as male.  It was life changing.

It may not do the same for you, but it may give you more insight to what your issues are.

I took the BBC brain test and scored 50 which puts me at exactly the same average score for women.

I just took the brain test and my score was about 25 on the male side. The male avg is 50 so... I think male less than a normal man?.? Lol  ;)

Psychologists who deal specifically with gender issues say that the test is not recognized as a legitimate clinical certification of gender dysphoria, so it's not reliable. Make an appointment with an experienced gender counselor to get an experienced and professional assessment as to whether you have gender identity disorder and or what your true level of dysphoria truly is.

My scores were all over the map on the BBC brain test I don't see how it could calculate any sensible number on the scale as my scores were extreme for both categores.

18 on the angles (15.5male 13.3female avg). 29% on spot the differences which tied my partner (g/g) which was low even for males. Empathy score of 13 which was higher than even the average female score. Systemitizing was 7 (avg male score was 12.5 and women 8 ). I was 10/10 on identifying emotions with pictures of just peoples eyes versus average of 6.6 for both sexes. I prefer female faces. I was 12/12 for 3d (7.1 avg women and 8.2avg male). I was 18 words versus (11.4 men and 12.4 female).

So basically, I'm a girl who is empathetic, can read peoples faces and emotions, prefer sexy femme faces, have the ability to express myself (verbally and in writing), can parallel park, but still cannot figure out where my wallet is... Hmmm... I wonder how the rest of us score?

The COGIATI- I score possible transsexual... If I had known where my wallet was I would have scored higher.  ;)

COLGATI legit? No not really. Sure it may help as a confidence booster for anyone just starting out or wanting to show friends "proof" but its pretty much just snake oil compared to real types of tests therapists are using, like the Minnesota Multiphasic test (? i think that was it?) that my first letter's therapist used... Asked the same question to him. While some of the questions are commonly used in a number of other legitimate tests, it wasn't long or complex enough to establish a set pattern beyond the simple points system it used to calculate the score... I assume its still pretty dated with stereotypical questions considering the last time I saw that thing was in 2002.... I think I had around an 87, but one of my H.S. girlfriends took it just to see and ended up with around a 62! LOL oh we had fun harping on her that night lol

I find it dubious that being good at maths is held against my femininity.

Also, I am careful when talking about death and suicide. Because if I did, I would mean it. I might not admit intensity of those feelings in a test like this one. When talking about it, my preference is walking long routes around direct statements.

None of them are as they are all based on typical stereo type behavior.

The best way to find out is tell your therapist what you think or feel about something that was said or done.

And of course be honest with your therapist and not say anything to the therapist on what they expect to hear.

Personal opinion from someone currently being medically trained.

Is it accurate? - NO
Is it useful? - NO
Is it based on any up to date social and psychological theory? - NO
Should you take it - NO
Should you go to a counsellor who relies on it - NO

in other words its an old remenant from the days when little women were supposed to stand at the sink barefoot and pregnant and not worry their pretty little heads about anything technical, while big bold daring emotionless he-man did clever maths drove, cars and earned money to keep his subservient wife in frilly knickers and makeup.

Bear in mind this is just a personal opinion... ;) but I don't think you would find many recently educated doctors who would disagree.

The COGIATI is complete rubbish imo. It's built on stereotypes. I was a bit more interested in the BBC test but it didn't let me finish it, I could only take the first part (in which I scored 20/20 in other words very "male"). Like, I know I have more of a male brain, and I identify as a guy. That's good enough for me.
