What happened to the emoticons (Smileys) and stuff on the reply page?

Me too....   :) ;) :D ;D :(

Have you an advert blocker switched on? Try turning it off and refresh the page to see if the smileys return

Beverley

:o 8) ??? ::)

My reply page had no buttons earlier today, but right now I see everything...

What I found is that my browser had cached a version of the reply page that didn't load correctly and was bringing it up when I went to make a reply

So I cleared my browser history, a simple fix and something I should do with more regularity anyway  :)

Okay, I've cleared my browser history/cache & cookies on both Firefox and Chrome, refreshed the pages and the smileys & formatting controls are still gone.

Add Safari to the list of browsers I've tried to no avail.

That is odd, there must be cure for it... Have you logged out shut down your PC then restarted and logged back in?

I didn't have them, then I cleared the cache, and I had them for one post, then they were gone again...as of this post I have all the buttons.

Logged out, in, restarted the computer. All the normal stuff one does, except kick the table and swear in a colorful but nonsensical fashion.

Firefox 10.0.2

*Sits and stares baffled*

I've got smileys and such but now the spell checker isn't working

*Tinks to self*  :eusa_think:  Computer experts are like cops, can't find 'em when you need one

Don't worry folks, this'll get figured

Ha! yes. And this time when I clicked on "Reply" all the smileys and format options are present.

So, it's got to be session-based. But, if I'm clearing history, deleting cookies, logging out, and rebooting, what am I missing?

I've been having problems too. Besides the one when the site keeps crashing. I did a complete virus check with an updated Norton and I had 20 trojans, virus, things to be cleaned off. No idea where they came from.

It's never good to leave your Trojans lying around your computer ... not only because of viruses, but bacteria too.

I'm having this problem all of a sudden. Didn't think much of it until I was trying to boldface something and didn't know how to make it work on this site without the buttons. Hmm.

It's been happening for a couple of days. I cleared my cache and exempted Susan's from the adblocker, and I whitelisted it on noscript. I'm using Firefox 3.6.27, no ability to update. I could switch to Safari, but it runs so slow that it makes me not want to use the internet.

Have you tried Google Chrome?

its been happening to me since they did some changes to the site availability. I really think this has to do with something on the server side and not our end.

I have chrome, firefox, and ie. Same results. Just your basic chat box.

I can't run Chrome. I'm on an old machine with an old OS and very little ram.

Lol of course Annah I can't quote you in format because the site functions aren't all available, but yeah. It correlated pretty clearly with some other site changes, so I didn't think much about it before. And it makes it frustrating to post news but it doesn't greatly interfere with access.

Hmmm  :eusa_think: Not really sure what is causing this, but what I did was clear my history to eliminate any incorrectly loaded reply pages that may have been cached and I reload the page whenever it doesn't load correctly

It has taken some time but it doesn't happen as often as it use to now

I am almost positive that all that chat extras were taken away to try to control the bandwidth issue. The less frills the site has, the more people who can access it.

I am pretty convinced that it has to do with the site removing things to make more bandwidth than things on our end.

Which is a shame, in my opinion because the posting is severely lacking now. Many of us suggested donations and many of us are willing to donate....but ....i guess no one likes that idea

When I first clicked on "Reply" in order to make this post, none of the formatting options were present. I refreshed the page twice in order for them to appear.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of that. But to me, it seems that it could be a combination of what's happening on my computer and what might be happening at the server.

I think it's a server side bug since it's random when i get the smiley/formatting bar and when it disappears for me

Link to a site (http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/ubbcode.html) with many of the formatting codes.

If you want to manually put in formatting, all you have to do is type:

[ b]bold text[ /b] (without the space between the first bracket and the format code, in this case "b")
bold text

[ i]italics[ /i]
italics

etc....
"u" for underline
"size=#" to change size (1=small, 6=big)
"quote" to quote (you can usually put quotes within quotes, as well)

[ quote]quoted text[ /quote]
Quotequoted text
Quotesecond level of quoted text
Quotequoted text

FYI, hope this helps someone.

Thanks Beth I tried that before but I was trying to do it like regular html, other than the few things I still remembered off the top of my head. Now I see what's going on.
