Title: Girl Scout Cookies
Post by: Jamie D on February 25, 2012, 05:23:46 PM

I bought two boxes of Girl Scout cookies today.
One Samoas and one Do-si-dos.
No ill-considered boycotts for me! I did it for the trans community, and not for the delicious taste.
Force yourself to do the same!

My granddaughter hits me up for at least four boxes every year, whats a granny-pa going to do? They're good with morning coffee or the girl scouts will send them to the GIs in warzones overseas if you request it.

I can't remember where I read it but if what I remember is true which it may not be I shall be forever humbled by my foolish mistake. I read that buying the Somoas is a sign of support for the Girl Scouts supporting the trans girl her in Colorado, so if this is true then I strongly suggest that all who can afford to buy sweet yummy Girl Scout cookies do so. The Somoas of course.

I accidentally went through half of my box of thin mint cookies the other night...
Guess I'll just have to go buy some more.

I got some more Friday evening, the girls braved a brisk chilly wind outside of the grocer. The Thank You Berry Much is an excellent cookie! I shared some of the thin mints with by buddies at the observing site last night.

I'm not completely happy with the GSOA in WI atm. I don't know the complete story but a scouts mom was a troop leader for a good number of years till she accidentally included a link to her husbands website in an official email and her husbands website isn't the most... "rainbows and lolly pops" view of life, so she got the boot as a troop leader.
Thumbs up for to the GSOA for allowing a trans girl into the club... Boo for making this woman out to be a bad person just because her husband supports an underground taste in entertainment.
If people want information on this woman in WI PM me.

They don't seem to have those in SoCal. And my old favorite, a shortbread backed with milk chocolate is gone too.

We've found that each troop orders their own blend and some don't order enough of certain types. I'm not too fond of the thin mints, but the peanut butter sandwiches are incredible. Now Shannon could live on thin mints, so we're on our second box of those. Unfortunately one troop sold us the chocolate covered peanut butter instead of the sandwiches. I don't care much for their chocolate because it has a plastic taste (does that make me a chocolate snob). The new lemon cookies are good enough, but it is SO hard to squeeze in a cookie on a 1600 calorie diet so I'll be sticking to the peanut butter sandwiches.

I had a funny experience yesterday. I had a picnic with a friend of mine (whom I've known for over a decade) and his friends and I brought the Samoas I bought the other day. And he asked me, "Oh were you a Girl Scout once?" And I said, "No," smiling to myself.

They used to be my favorite but ever since the local troop switched bakers, the cookies haven't been as good. We still buy a few boxes every year to support the trans girls and all GSOA (I'm a former member and happily remember being accepted there).

Well, today is March 2nd, and yes I bought two boxes of Samoas down at my local supermarket :) Got there just in time, they'd sold out of Samoas by the time I'd come out with my groceries a half hour later
Funny thing though, I don't actually eat much sweets  Maybe they'll be there tomorrow and I can give them back my cookies to sell again
Actually, I'll prolly just share them with my neighbors :) A self conducted poll indicates that Samoas seem to be the running favorite

Various commercial bakers are used by the GSA districts.
Keebler makes a cookie called "Coconut Dreams" that looks exactly like GSA Samoas.

I accidentally stumbled through some thin mints last night. The shortbread cookies here don't have chocolate. I make caramel and spooge it all over the top of the shortbread cookies. Pretty sure I get them up around two hundred calories each! So good! Hugs, Devlyn

There was a Brownies troop at the store last night so of course the adult leaders were actually do the selling while the girls just went about like kids that age do and of coarse a couple of them were complete chatter boxes
