Spring is upon us and so is the fight to protect the rights of transsexual, transgender and gender-variant Canadians in Parliament. I am taking the Gender Identity Bill, Bill C-279, back into the House of Commons for its first hour of second reading for debate in April.

Hi SandraJane

Thanks for posting a news item on the Canadian trans rights bill in our Government. I had been thinking of searching bills in Parliament and were they are currently. This member bill C-279 in the House of Commons could be a restart of bill C-379 which had been passed in the House & has been sent to the Senate to be voted on. Unfortunately the progress of C-379 had been hijacked by prorogue &  several elections in a short span between each other. I hope this doesn't mean starting all over again. Not to get too political, but the Conservatives finally won a majority and don't have a good record on women's rights. I have a trans mtf that is an activist at the provincial level.

I never understand that a person that has all their rights in the Charter of Rights but the moment you transition, your protection evaporates & we have to rework the Charter for inclusion.
