Title: annoyed and pretty fed up.
Post by: Kitty_Babe on March 16, 2012, 08:33:46 AM
I recently removed these pics from Facebook being told, I am told I am no Cindy Crawford, (No, ? Really ??) In fact I took these pictures down off Facebook, because some one told me I was very brave for posting them. :(

I really don't see what that has to do with anything. Comments like "you are no Cindy Crawford" and your brave for uploading those pics.. imply some thing else entirely, (either I am ugly or what ever) its NOT the pictures posing I don't think.

Why are you even friends with people who leave comments like that under your pictures? And if you like the pics, then why take them down?

oh I don't know ? maybe I feel self concious maybe. I have decided NOT to try and make any more photos of me anyway. I am obviously not photogenic, and I wish I had never shown anyone my pics good or bad. Period.

I can't comment on your pics because I can't see them on the computer that I'm using but don't the bad comments get to you. I know, easier said than done. ::hugs::

hmm, with not a single positive remark about how you look - "hardly you look fabulous darling thread", I can really assume that their actual comments are true. I am of course hurt and full of self pity right now. I regret most of all even putting up photos of me now, that I have had less than "nice" comments about how I look. I am surprised at how many threads there are of people thinking they ARE ugly, they really should see me then. :(

They were done on a 5 Mega pixel camera phone about arms length away from my face. Hardly poor resolution, (I would understand that comment if I only had a 1.5 Mega Pixel or so Camera). Most photo's I have seen on this website 'ARE' posed photo's anyway, not all of them good res pics either. But still get good comments.. Its FINE either way. I guess tested the water as it were, and drowned for my trouble.

I'm pretty certain you look better IRL than you do in the pictures so I'm going to blame the camera!

If you don't mind, I'd like to give you some feedback from an amateur photographers perspective.

It looks to me that the photos are from a webcam - these generally have a lens with a wide focal length and will distort your face on a close up shot.  The other thing is the way the lighting in your room leaves harsh shadows on your face and that makes all the contours of the face a lot more exaggerated.  I'm guessing that you probably had a desk lamp or window to the right of your face and it's pretty close.

On a few shots you're craning your head upwards towards the camera, and that tends to exaggerate the jawline, particularly on a web cam.

My suggestions for a better photo with the web cam - a bit more light over your face, and try and bring your head more level with the camera so you get less distortion, and take the shot further away and crop it.  If you look at your third photo, the way your head is positioned is fine, it's only the lighting that's exaggerating the features of your face.

Have fun playing around with it, and don't worry about it too much!

It's not the megapixels that count, it's really more how well the camera responds to a low light situation, and to be honest, most camera phones fail rather badly in that regard.  I would also say that most phone cameras have a wide focal length lens and they are definitely not flattering to any human subject!

Posing and lighting are key to good photos, and I suspect that you are craning your head forward as you take your photos and that makes a headshot very awkward.

Maybe that is what I am doing wrong? I only have the phone camera.

Avoid headshots and take the photo from further away - that will minimise the barrel distortion effect.

I think your being overly analytical, A photo out of focus or not, some of my photos I 'know' were slightly blurred, or out of focus. Some had shadows on them but not all of them. but none the less my image is in those pictures, and this is not a photography contest. I wasn't asking if I or 'how' I can take better pictures, I said I am fed up with people saying derogatory remarks about how I look. Those comments were NOT about  how I took those photo's they were about me. That is personal, and I didn't like it, I was hurt.

Oh that thread, hum well, I do not actually post in there, I refuse to, if I can't also give an honest reply to some thing, and I do appreciate people being honest, and not being lied to. The truth can hurt though, and often lead to consequences. No one here would like to feel responsible for. There of course very vulnerable people who come here.

Women in their 40's CAN look great by the way, some women wear well with age, I look as bad with Make-up on so its never an option for me to wear it to be honest. I am in my early 40's I know also I am not going to be able to re capture my lost youth from my 20's again, but its about looking and feeling good into your old age. When it turns out people make comments like I have seen, then you pretty much know your flogging a dead horse any way. I posted those pictures, because for one - there was a couple I actually liked, but more so, here because I thought people would of understood what I was feeling. Nope guess not.

I didn't see the pictures, so I won't comment on them.

When you post photos that are blurry or of poor quality, that is the first thing that people will notice and the impression will not be positive.

It is much the same as selling a car that is dirty.   It is asking people to imagine that it is clean, which they won't do.   They will only notice how dirty the car is and, from there, they'll begin to see other things that are generally negative.

If you are hoping for a positive response, do your best to present a positive image for people to view.

Regarding makeup, it's best to consult a professional in cosmetics to help you select the exact makeup items required to best bring out your best look.   There are a lot of different "looks" and the one you select should present the image you want.   I've seen a lot of bad makeup jobs and it only makes the person look worse.

A good makeup job will always make a woman look better than no makeup at all.   If you look the same or worse with makeup, perhaps you can find a way to improve on that, as it is very possible to do.

I had to learn myself that you can't run out of the house without spending time fixing your face and styling your hair, at a minimum.   Naturally, shaving and other maintenance tasks also need to be done to put your best foot forward as an attractive female.

Don't get discouraged, there's a lot of help out there for us.   It is possible to look attractive as a female and you don't have to be young to do it.
