Title: GA Hate Crime Bill dies in Senate
Post by: BeverlyAnn on March 28, 2007, 03:30:47 PM
The Georgia Hate Crimes Bill as of yesterday was still stuck in the Senate Judiciary committee and midnight last night was Crossover Day.  This means that any bill has to be passed by either the House or Senate and sent to the opposite house by midnight to be considered during the remainder of the legislative session.  There was virtually no possibility that the bill could clear the committee and the Senate by midnight last night so it most likely died in committee.

I haven't been able to find a link to this but I will bet LIT can find one. ;)

Several legislative measures left out of session (http://www.walb.com/Global/story.asp?S=6287816&nav=menu37_3)

A plan to repeal Georgia's ban on payday lenders was the first to go today, when the House failed to pass the bill. A proposed hate crimes law, plans for Confederate History Month and Governor Perdue's effort to clarify that church groups may receive state money failed to make the Senate calendar. House Speaker Glenn Richardson promised less legislation at the beginning of this session.

"We will however continue to move slowly and cautiously when adopting new laws that affect our citizen's in this state. When it comes down to adopting more laws and more legislation, less is more," said Richardson.
