Well we all have to go in them at sometime, which is the best/worst for you Doctors, Dentist,etc
I have had some great chats with people in waiting rooms but most people sit there like Zombies lol.

Courts, Hospitals, and DMVs.

I like the waiting room at the food stamp office. Very interesting mix of people. I have great respect for the people who have the patience to competently staff such places.

Doesn't usually matter to me, if I have an idea that I will be waiting, I'll bring a book.  The only bad one is the vet's, I can't read because my dog goes spastic around other people and animals, he wants to go play, lick them and generally goes nuts when I try to hold him.  The first time at the vets with him, I didn't wear long sleeves and my arms were all bloody from his nails by the time the vet saw us.

Has anyone ever sat in a crowded waiting room wondering why why they call it room?

Well if they labelled it correctly as "Pre-torture chamber" they wouldn't get so many victims would they?  :P

The best waiting rooms I've come across are the ones that have a homely feel about them - the seats are comfortable, the magazines are up to date, and there's something there to distract the kids.

The worst are the ones with the cheap plastic chairs, tattered 8 year old magazines, ratty carpet, and with a receptionist with holier than thou attitude.

The best waiting rooms would be the one at my dentist. It's pretty quiet, has a tv(keep on low or no volume though), and magazines that can keep me busy. Another one is where I go see me counselor. Comfy couches. You basically sink into them. :3

Comfy chair, coffee and a TV.

Worst place is my student health center.
One crappy experience was when I was pre-t. I was in a lot of pain& was there for some pain killers. The woman asked me if I was "on [my] period" while other students were in the waiting room. I had told them I did not need them to acknowledge such things unless we were in a room away from the earshot of others. They would give me this pink form that only females received to fill out.

I went back for the first time since starting T this past week for something to soothe my throat - no pink form. It made the waiting room experience livable!

Glad you got that sorted out i know how it feels, i had my male name called when sat in the full waiting room also the counter dragon asked me why i had a blood
test booked  sooo in front of the long que i had to explain its a hormone test ahhhh, one of the staff hates me bad and will do whatever she can to obstruct me

I freaking hate the GYN waiting room. I feel ultra-conspicuous. I pretend I'm there to give a semen sample.

I'm the person who sits quietly, furtively sneaking peeks at others, then quickly glancing down at their ankles when they catch me looking at their face...

I also randomly shuffle the magazines, looking for any racy pictures on covers, and "read the articles" while glancing around...

This way, all the moms get their sniffly- and snot-infected children away from me.

I remember checking in at a doctors visit. The check in person told me the doctor was behind & would be with me shortly. The check in person's shift ended & another person took over at the check in. I waited for almost 2 hours & finally talked with another person working at the check in. That person did not know I was waiting to see the doctor & apologized. I finally was able to see the doctor after 2 hours of waiting. That sucked!

I was at a motor registration waiting room for almost three hours. Place was packed with people with colds and flu. People coughing and sneezing all over the place.  Guess who came down with a rotten cold the next day.

The only thing to take to a waiting room is a flame thrower.

Actually a flame thrower that fits in a handbag could be a really useful girl item. Mmm where to get one.

At my GP today there were only three of us in the waiting room. All Transwomen! What are the odds on that!! :D

My GP's waiting room is a zoo. My therapists waiting room seems a bit like a church or a library - everyone who dares speak does it in a hushed voice. My gyno's waiting room is great. The receptionist is a crack up and every time I've been, I've met a trans person I didn't know..

The lobby at my therapist's office has so many rainbow flags I feel like I'm in a bowl of skittles.

I don't mind my endo's waiting room - then again, I'm usually his first patient of the afternoon so it's walk straight in to the office, and out again.
What I hate most are the path labs - having to have pro-lactin checked on a blood test is annoying as you're guaranteed to have to wait at least 15 minutes before.  I usually pick up some sort of way expired copy of vogue and start picking apart the fashion photos, ignoring the stares of others around me.  (Usual thoughts would be wth is that guy doing staring at an ad for 5 minutes straight - me - I'm trying to work out how they set up the shot and how much potato-chopping went into the photo)

The wait can't be helped Luna, I'm afraid.  I worked in a Pathology lab and it is at least 20 minutes from the time your blood is taken, until it comes out of the Centrifuge.  Even for an urgent specimen it's probably another ten minutes at least until the analyser spits out the result. 

Definitely the Vet's! You can tell which people will be leaving with their pets and those who will leave without them and its so sad to see.

On a more positive note though - whenever I go to get my dog's nails clipped, he goes ape-sh*t crazy! He's a German Shepherd [Alsatian] ex-police dog so is well trained and usually quite placid, but when he realises we're in the waiting room of the vets havoc ensues!

You generally know a waiting room experience isn't a positive one when you have to be gently, yet repeatedly reminded that your snoring is disturbing everyone else in there.

I've never really minded waiting rooms but I had bloods taken in london and that was a whole different story. It was really busy and we had to take a ticket from a machine and wait for it to beep up on the screen for when we could go in. The only other place I've been that has a ticket system is Argos xD Then once I was in there were like 10 other patients in there all crammed in having blood taken. The nurse was also really rough and terrifying.

Those ticket things are interesting. There's one at the post office near me. I'm convinced they have some arcane ability to tell what ticket you have and then call you to the farthest away counter possible to where you actually are in relation to it. >.<

Really? I've had blood taken many times and its always been a little old lady with a clipboard!

I remember once giving blood with someone who was due to retire the next week (I learnt this through gossiping with her and her wearing a novelty badge!), but bless her she was AWFUL! She missed the vein on my right arm 3 times, blamed me for having small veins and then switched arms. On the 2nd attempt on the left arm, she wiggled the needle around in my arm for 10-20 excrutiating seconds  :(

After a couple of days my arms were covered in the deepest, darkest bruises i've ever seen! Lol i've not gave blood since!
