My name is Shauna and I am new to Susan's. Where to begin?!?!?
I am a 30 y/o pre-op MtF transsexual and have been on HRT for almost 3 months. I was in denial of my GID for many many years, though thinking back over my childhood, the signs have been there since my preteen years. I finally came to terms with my GID about 3 months ago after several years of extreme depression and immediately sought the help of a gt and an endo experienced with HRT treat for tansgender people.
I came out to my wife of 6.5 years within a few days of meeting with my gt and prior to seeking HRT. She tried to be understanding and supportive at first, but that ended after a couple of days at which point she decided she wanted a divorce. We continued to live together for the next 1.5 months for logistic reasons, during which time I suffered extreme emotion abuse. She has since moved in with her mother (1.5 hours away) and I have moved into an apartment. I have 2 amazing children (9 months and 3 years) and they are the light of my life and I miss them dearly when they are not with me.
Since beginning HRT I have had a level of mental clarity that I did not know was possible, and the depression and anger I have had for so many years are long gone also. I am also very happy with the physical changes that have happened so far. I was nervous about living by myself since I never have before. However, it has been a wonderful! I get to be me always (except at work, which would cost me my job which I cannot afford). I love not having to hide anymore and have discovered that I am a happy smiley person which I never knew before. While my (ex)wife continues to attempt to beat me down emotionally, I have discovered that my newfound happyness prevents her ability to do so.
I guess that's it for now, time to get to work :-(
I look forward to getting to know you all!
Hugs
Shauna

Hello Shauna, and welcome from another of the Aussie sheilas.
Much of your story sounds so familiar. In my case it took 50+ years for the penny to finally drop, although with hindsight I can see that I realised something was up at about 7 or 8.
I didn't have to worry about the effect on my marriage, as that ended several years before I realised I was TS, and my kids are adults.
It didn't take more than about a week for the HRT to completely change me emotionally and in my temperament. The Depression that had been present for 40 years or so just vanished, and I smile almost all the time now.
Welcome to the rest of life. Karen.

Make sure you keep your rights to see your children or else you could lose them. Go slow there is no hurry..
