Title: What do you think of this quote with regards to transsexuality

Quote from: Fredrick DouglassI saw this today and I thought it really spoke to the fears society injects into us growing up. So often we are taught to value the opinion of the masses around us more than that of our own heart. That even the chance of their laughter is worse than to hate our own selves.
I prefer to be true to myself even at the hazard of incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and incur my own abhorrence.

I like it very much, Jeneva. And I think it has wider-reaching impact than transsexuality. The same could be said in many aspects of life.
Thank you for sharing it.

I am leaning towards living that quote myself as the weeks go by here...I have had a taste of being "3D" as I want here around the ranch, and I like it a lot! been way to many years being what others want...my turn now :)

Hi Jeneva,
The quote ties in very closely to a passage I read when I was a teenager that a former 60's actress who became a Nun Dolores Hart had as a motto to live her life & I adopted this for me, it is a famous Shakespeare line, "to thine own self be true."

To thine own self be true is definitely a powerful quote too. I just had run across the above quote for the first time and was surprised at how well I thought it fit our struggle. Obviously it wasn't actually about us at all, but it just seemed to fit.
We found some cool artwork on CafePress with a rainbow dragonfly with To thine own self be true written around it. TN doesn't require front plates so both cars have that on a license plate and we also sometimes wear our tees with that artwork on the same day too (hers is green and mine is yellow). Shannon is very drawn to dragonflies so when we saw that quote around the rainbow dragonfly we knew we had to get a few things with it.

Hi Jeneva,
Glad you like the quote and agree it is powerful.
The artwork if it is anything like your avatar it must look beautiful and excellent to have the quote.
Cheers
