Title: HRT Myths

Hey Everyone!
I'm about nearly 8 weeks into my HRT and have seen some crazy changes, however, I have been curious about my further expected changes so I've been looking around and I found some things that really plagued my mine. I have seen many instances where people say one thing and another person saying another. Now, I understand that each and every individual is different but surely HRT would, in essence, have somewhat have the same effect on everyone, no? So therefore everyone has the same if not similar outcomes. But aforementioned, some people are saying contradictory things and I would just like to know and dispel any myths regarding HRT.
Here are somethings that have confused me and would like to hear your experiences of HRT with things like:
HRT causes:
Hair on head to go quicker and stronger
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??)
Hair over body fades to vellus hair?
Hair on legs become non-existent?
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller
Libido dies
Penis Shrinkage
Ocular shape change
I think that's all I have heard so far... any input is highly appreciated :)

Hair on head to go quicker and stronger - Not sure about this?
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller - Not that I know of?
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??) - It might slow a little bit? But I haven't noticed much or hear of much.
Hair over body fades to vellus hair? - I wish! Might reduce a little bit, but majority of hair is still there.
Hair on legs become non-existent? - Nope
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts - Drier skin, but no breakouts
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller - Yup
Libido dies - Yes and no... friskiness has changed I would say... not just in a "more" or "less" way
Penis Shrinkage - nope
Ocular shape change - i heard of this, but not that i know of?

Hair on head to go quicker and stronger I've seen it as reported. Mine -did- do that, but I inconveniently switched to a great shampoo when I started HRT, so~
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller I definitely believe it's possible. It's probably a matter of how much muscle you had in your feet to begin with, and how much HRT makes you lose. I hope mine do that~
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??) Nope, doesn't go away at all. Mine got -a little- softer and grows -a little- slower, but nothing amazing.
Hair over body fades to vellus hair? Not all of it for most, but yes, it does somewhat go in that direction. Mine is headed there, too, even though I don't know if it'll ever reach that blissful stage.
Hair on legs become non-existent? No. Unless you have almost zero to begin with. Most women have relatively thick leg hair, too.
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts It can cause acne. Oily skin is improbable. Dry skin is relatively frequent, but you just need to moisturise a little bit more. It's rarely a problem.
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller Yes, it generally happens. To what extent, though, is up to your genes.
Libido dies It depends on people a lot. Mine did completely. I think that basically the physical part of libido is greatly affected, but if one has psychological libido, that one stays, so they might not feel much of a difference.
Penis Shrinkage Happens~. Mine did, anyway.
Ocular shape change That's one of the first visible changes I noticed. It's somewhat subtle, but to me, it's really obvious. And I love it. I think HRT can, uhm, reconfigure the way your "automatic" eyelid muscles work. My eyes open much more downwards now, whereas the lower part used to be almost a straight line.

The problem is people are ignorant of science and rational evidence based arguing. So everyone says things as facts without evidence to support it and form logically fallacious conclusions from personal experiences.
Hair on head to go quicker and stronger - Maybe, hormones do influence hair
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller - Doubtful, mostly a bone structure thing, but it could reduce muscles creating that appearence.
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??) - Absolutely possible, won't happen for everyone, but in some cases it can completely eliminate terminal facial hair, most likely to happen if you start around or before 21. Longer you've had the hair the less likely it gets to be effective.
Hair over body fades to vellus hair? - Absolutely possible, and more likely than the above
Hair on legs become non-existent? - Doubtful depending on your ethnicity. Most women have natural hair on their legs so why would it? Can definitely reduce the amount into normal ranges though.
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts - Possible, hormones do influence skin.
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller - Probably due to reduced of testosterone to maintain muscles.
Libido dies - Possible, happens to some people but not others.
Penis Shrinkage - Possible, happens to some people but not others.
Ocular shape change - Doubtful but similar to the foot size issue.
There are a lot of myths about HRT and many of the myths disguise themselves as being myths, Like the myth that it won't affect facial hair. It CAN... but only for some people dependent on age and other factors.
YMMV

22 months HRT, 8 months SRS
Hair on head to go quicker and stronger: Quicker yes, stronger no
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller: MAYBE 1/2 size, not wearing socks also helps
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??) Slower yes, not going away even after 100s of hours electrolysis and plenty laser sessions
Hair over body fades to vellus hair? Not quite vellus, but much thinned and lots thinner, almost invisible by now.
Hair on legs become non-existent? Same as above
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts: Yes, dryer and breakouts
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller: Yes, noticeable on arms, shoulder and back muscles
Libido dies: Hum, yes
Penis Shrinkage: Well, gone by now, but yes had shrunk about 1/4 after ~ 12 month HRT
Ocular shape change: Still wearing same strength reading glasses...

Hair on head to go quicker and stronger
Almost totally unqualified to answer :(
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller
About 1 size for me. At first I speculated due to overall decrease in muscle mass. THat is far from the case with my legs with all the walking I do
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??)
From needing to shave every day to perhaps 3 days. The AA seems to be more of a determining factor then estrogen levels
Hair over body fades to vellus hair?
After nearly 3 years kinda sorta. Depends where.
Hair on legs become non-existent?
Greatly decreased but still grows. For some odd reason my kneecaps still grow at the same rate with the same coarse hair. Weird
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts
Certainly drier to dry skin compared to the oil gushers I had for pores. Thanks more to the AA I think then estrogen
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller
Decreased testosterone will do that if you don't actively work at keeping the muscles
Penis Shrinkage
Can't honestly say yes. I think this has a lot more to libido and level of arousal
Ocular shape change
My pre-Jurasaic age disqualifies me from answering
I would add:
Perspiration and/or body odor changes
Heightened sense of smell and taste

Hair on head to go quicker and stronger - Quicker, yep... stronger? Nope. Unless by stronger you mean more plentiful. Then yep. I went from medium density to high density in a few months.
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller - I went from a 10.5 womens to between an 8w and 9 regular
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??) A few follicles came in slower, but I still needed to shave as much as I ever had before HRT
Hair over body fades to vellus hair? It's SLOWLY becoming finer
Hair on legs become non-existent? Not yet after 9 months. Not even close. I shave less often now though
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts Absolutely. Testosterone is a major player in the production of sebum, which is an oily substance that protects your skin from the sun. It is also the stuff that causes the reaction that leads to blackheads. Sebum has a potential of being produced from every follicle on your body (and scalp), including the vellus hair. Once testosterone is cut down, it's likely that your sebaceous glands will produce much less sebum, leading to more clear / dry skin. I would also like to add, it's smart to invest in sunblock. With less sebum, it's essential to use a little sunblock every day. Without it, UVA rays will destroy the elasticity in your skin, which is what gives people the aged appearance.
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller Yep. I lost 4" off my chest alone in about 2 months. It turns into fat :P I hope you have a high metabolism!!!
Libido dies I wouldn't say die. More like changes. I could write so much on this, but to summarize, different things turn me on. It's not the physical things that make me wanna do it, it's the emotional connection.
Penis Shrinkage Yeah that thing shriveled up and died, lol! Well not really, but it seems like it sometimes :P
Ocular shape change I think it's just fatty deposits around your eyes that make it seem like the shape has changed.

Woopsy, really?... Ass size 12 (now), top size 14 (now) - was size 10 and 16 respectively.
A lot of middle aged women would love my bottom and my legs - even my 'sporty' (for an older female) shoulders and arms.
In fact I was told just that not too long ago (about my arms).
As far as legs go... this is one ongoing thing getting compliments just walking in the street, and getting wolfs-whistles going past some filling-station.
I always wave a thank you and swing my hips some extra :)
I hope this will take care of the 'ocular' bit, eh?
Axélle
PS: Gosh, still wrong --- I always had nice blue eyes, this was also mentioned quite some. Did they change? Not really, they fine the way the are and have stayed. I did have an eyelift some 20 odd years back I should mention.

actually, I meant the overall shape of the eyeball. Apparently it changes??
in regards to everyone's replies, I see it everyone's different I guess it really depends on the individual. Personally for me, the hair on my legs barely grow anymore and its only been 8 weeks. I don't know but maybe it is because I epilate and used to wax that my hair follicles must have become inactive.. or not as active as it used to be pre-HRT. Although, if genetics did play an important part then I'll be hairless? My mum since she was a teenager never needed to shave her legs, and to this day, she doesn't have a single hair on any part of her leg or body. Although, that being said...she is balding/thinning at the age of 65.
I do hope that musculature, for me at least, changes because I'm a very broad shouldered and large legged individual. People have said I have beyoncé legs. :S

Uhm, the eyeball just cannot change. The eyes are the only part of our body that doesn't change (except damage) from birth to death. What -can- change is how your eyes look. How wide they open. Maybe the angle of your eyelids. Things like that. But the eyeball itself wouldn't change no matter what. I mean, if its shape changed, we'd start doing astigmatism, which is bad news!

but still good news that eye shape will change.

Hair on head to go quicker and stronger: Yes, from what I can tell. My hair is definitely thicker and softer and I think it grows a lot faster.
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller: When I was looking for shoes pre-HRT it was a stretch to fit into an 11, but now I regularly fit into 10s and can fit into some 9.5s
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??): Possibly, but it's hard to measure because I've had laser as well. It definitely won't go away without laser/electrolysis
Hair over body fades to vellus hair?: Besides my legs (and genitals), my body hair has lightened to the point where it's not noticeable
Hair on legs become non-existent?: Where did you hear this? It slows down leg hair growth, but it will always be there. Cis-girls naturally have leg hair and so will you.
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts: Skin softens, acne virtually disappears
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller: I quickly (within 3 months) noticed a significant decrease in my strength. Not that I really cared all that much
Libido dies: For the most part. Erections will still occasionally occur
Penis Shrinkage: I'm not sure? The testicles definitely shrink, but I don't know if the penis itself has
Ocular shape change: Somewhat, but I'm still not completely happy with the way my eyes are shaped- but I also have major body image issues, so I may not be incredibly reliable on this one

I've been on HRT for about a year now, so I'll mention roughly when any of these things happened, if at all..
HRT causes:
Hair on head to go quicker and stronger - It seems to grow a little quicker than it did, not sure when that started though..
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller - No change there for me at all.
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??) - mine has slowed quite a bit, it now takes me 2 or 3 days to grow what used to be a days growth. That seemed to happen around month 7 or 8.
Hair over body fades to vellus hair? - Mine started changing about 3 or 4 months in, but only after I'd waxed it a few times..
Hair on legs become non-existent? - hasn't happened to me, it has reduced though. Again that was at about 3 or 4 months.
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts - My skin is much improved, less oily, finer pores, softer.. That started fairly quickly.
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller - That's been happening slowly since about month 5 or 6.
Libido dies - Hasn't really happened. It's changed for sure, but hasn't died.
Penis Shrinkage - Started about 3 months in..
Ocular shape change - Doesn't happen.. The eyelids and muscles around the eyes may change a little, mine have abd I'm not quite sure when it happened.

Well, believe it or not, it is said, the curvature of one's lens will change, be affected by estrogen...
Since I already have astigmatism needing #3 reading-glasses, I can't tell either way.
Are more women short-sighted (visually :-) than men? In my experience I could answer that with YES.
(Actually vision, seems to go hand in hand with the psychological 'sight' too - also my experience)
Men tend to become more 'long-sighted' (I am... um). Funny enough the male/female sight pattern was explained just that way by some optometrist-consultant at my last factory job.
Men have 'hunter-vision' he said, women ... I forget, but something that helps with doing fine delicate close work with their hands.
E has not changed my astigmatism. My long sightedness? Maybe.

PS: and PLEASE no comments about being sexist now - pretty please? :)

What? The crystaline lens is affected by oestrogen? I wasn't even sure there was blood going there.
Well, that's surprising. (But the eyeball won't change, still, right?)

Eye-ball would not change with E, my understanding.
BTW, crystalline lens... ONLY if REPLACED!
The natural lens is made of something far more flexible... i.e. made of mostly water and protein..." remember, it can grow cataracts - and it CAN bend too.

"Only if replaced"?
I know its shape changes, but I didn't know blood, let alone oestrogen, reached there. After all, there's no trace of red in there. I thought it was an inanimate organ, only chemically reacting to light.

Hair on head to go quicker and stronger - Yes, my hair thickened up on HRT
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller - I lost at least one shoe size
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??) - not that I've noticed
Hair over body fades to vellus hair? - No idea, I started hormones before developing all that icky body hair.
Hair on legs become non-existent? - No, even natal women have leg hair
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts - My skin became much less oily after only a few weeks on HRT, I think that was one of the first changes I noticed
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller - Yes
Libido dies - mine was low before HRT, but it hasn't gone away completely.
Penis Shrinkage - I have had a little shrinkage, but not enough to interfere with function
Ocular shape change - no idea

Well, let's see here...
Hair on head to go quicker and stronger - Growing quicker? couldn't tell ya on that... Stronger? Definitely the hair structure has changed and seems to have more elastisity, also areas that were thinning have some new growth
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller - Not sure, but feet seem to be about a half size smaller
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??) - Not that I can tell
Hair over body fades to vellus hair? - Never had much body hair, but my pit hairs are greatly reduced
Hair on legs become non-existent? - Leg hair has slowly diminished, none of my leg hair has grown back since my last waxing
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts - Definitely dry skin needs moisturizers, lighter skin tone, completion greatly improved, rarely a pimple
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller - Definitely
Libido dies - I wouldn't say dies, but rather it changes
Penis Shrinkage - Yes
Ocular shape change - Haven't noticed

Could muscles reducing lead to people's feet seeming smaller? Plus I feel like some women's socks are thinner.
I'd never heard anything about feet before but it looks like several of the people here have experienced it.

If your feet had no muscles you wouldn't be able to walk or wiggle your toes.
My explanation could be totally wrong though.

Muscle loss seems like the most obvious explanation, or it could be due to changes in fat distribution.

After six months on something light, followed by six months on stronger stuff:
Hair on head to go quicker and stronger - I don't feel that it grows more quickly, but I have three layers in my hair. The original growing out layer (from shaved, March 2010) the first HRT layer (June 2011) the second HRT layer (December 2011)
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller - I think this has happened. I started off with 12 and can now fit 11
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??) - Yes. I had to start shaving earlier before electrolysis, because it wouldn't get long enough to pull out.
Hair over body fades to vellus hair? - In some places, yes. It is certainly doing that on my arms, not all the hairs, but most of them. The yucky chest hair I used to have seems to require only a bit of a shave every now and then, and the patch that needs it is shrinking.
Hair on legs become non-existent? I feel it's definitely thinning, and doesn't need so much shaving. It doesn't get so prickly any more after shaving
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts - I had plenty of breakouts at the beginning of HRT, but they seem to have calmed down now and I rarely get any.
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller - Yes, I hope they keep on doing that.
Libido dies - this only happened after I went on the strong stuff. Before that it was merely reduced. Whatever interest I had was shut down completely. I found it a relief, but then I wondered whether I would ever get any feeling back. Just recently something has come back that seems to be a different way of having a libido, not like a testosterone driven one, but a libido none the less
Penis Shrinkage - yes, but it's easier to hide lumps now!
Ocular shape change - I haven't noticed this one.
I would have thought the most persistent myth (for non-trans people at least) was that MTF HRT makes your voice go higher. I often get people assuming that.

Hair on head to go quicker and stronger?
A bit quicker, slightly more dense. My hairs still thin as a babies.Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller?
[/b]Maybe after a while, I have noticed a bit more slippage in my current sneakers before reading this thread.
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??)
[/b]For me... not yet if ever. Electrolysis was my only answer.
Hair over body fades to vellus hair?
Totally, my arms are the most noticeable. There are places that used to contain hair are now closed up and look like part of my skin rather than a pore with hair growing. There are a few strong black hairs that grow on my arm but all it takes is 5 minutes of shaving to get rid of them. Growth rate for 90% of my hairs is super slow on my arm, some thin and lacking much pigmentation.Hair on legs become non-existent?
No way, real girls have hair on their legs to. What I have noticed is a similar reaction as my arms. Just not as quickDry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts?
I scrub, I use lotion.... so maybe but as long as you take care of your skin you will be ok.Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller?
Never had any to begin with, strength lowers slightly but you can build it back up.Libido dies?
For me... no way. Increased libido, but way easier to control.Penis Shrinkage?
Sorta, maybe a tiny itty bit. Scrotum sometimes shrinks.Ocular shape change?
Is this even possible O-o

Hair on head to go quicker and stronger/ I don't know about quicker but it has gottin thicker.
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller/one size smaller but I had a callus on the back of my heels and on the bottom of my foot that slowly came off over time after starting hrt.
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??)/yes lower
Hair over body fades to vellus hair?/I wish this too. it did get finer.
Hair on legs become non-existent?/still have hair on my legs.
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts/ no breakouts and have to wash it twice every day to keep it from being oily.
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller/ yes
Libido dies/ went from wanting all the time to not really caring if I have sex or not. but I seem to want for play more.
Penis Shrinkage/ No change here.
Ocular shape change/ no change here either
Maybe we could make a pole on this to see percentage. It may help get an over all understanding of it. this has made me a little confused also.

Hair on head to go quicker and stronger/ Mine is finer in texture than before but about the same in thickness.
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller/ No feet shrinkage
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??)/ Yes facial hair is much slower and very little growth.
Hair over body fades to vellus hair?/ Yes
Hair on legs become non-existent?/Yes, I have no hair on my legs!
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts/ No dry skin, no oily skin either.
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller/ Not much.
Libido dies/ My libido is about the same which wasn't high to start with.
Penis Shrinkage/ A little bit of shrinkage
Ocular shape change/ I don't know what it means? but my fat re-distribution is poor.
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller/ No feet shrinkage

Hair on head to go quicker and stronger - No, but I've always had thick hair so it may be true for those with finer hair
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller - I used to take a UK 9 in mens' shoes; the last pair of shoes I bought were a 6
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??) - Had none when I started HRT so can't answer
Hair over body fades to vellus hair? - Yes but had very little anyway
Hair on legs become non-existent? - No change to leg hair at all. Unfortunately!
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts - Skin has got more dry but is looking great
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller - Not that I've noticed but I've always been skinny
Libido dies - Totally!
Penis Shrinkage - No
Ocular shape change - No

The eyebal itself doesn't change but the shape of the eyes definitely do... More specifically the angle of the middle lacrimal caruncle stretches downward giving you slightly more almond shaped eyes.
Also what makes feet shrink over time( for some) is the fact that HRT does affect cartilage.

Let's see... On me:
Hair on head to go quicker and stronger My hair is finer, softer and longer than before.
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller Nope
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??) Yep, it is finer than the coarse old man's beard. A two day growth resembles the 5:00 shadow before.
Hair over body fades to vellus hair? Some.
Hair on legs become non-existent? Thinner and lighter.
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts Nope.
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller I got a substantial increase, unusual, but it happens.
Libido dies Only on Spiro. I resumed the Spiro this morning after a two week car trip. I do not take the diuretic/androgen blocker while traveling long distances. Libedo returned this morning after a year without it.
Penis Shrinkage Yes, but with the incident this morning, it could stay nearly the same size if your libedo is still high on hormones.
Ocular shape change Unknown. It may in the younger transitioners that started HRT well below the age of 28 when your bones cap. The main cause is changes in the shape of the ocular orbits in the skull by normal adolescent development or of bone disease there. There is a change in my vision and I'll have that checked out next month. My case it is the threat of glaucoma.

Joelene9, seeing how my eyes started to change noticeably (but not a whole lot eh) well before one month, I think the main cause - for me, up until now, anyway - is actually changes in the muscles. Well, I certainly would be happy to see my bones change, but for now, it can't really be that; I'm not even 4 months in.

Hair on head to go quicker and stronger - Yes, but thinning or MPB does not change
Feet shrinkage to a size or two smaller - No. I doubt this would happen, because of the skeletal structure of the foot
Facial hair growth is slower (doesn't go away entirely??) - Yes to some extent. But still need electrolysis.
Hair over body fades to vellus hair? - Yes slowly, even after 4 years.
Hair on legs become non-existent? - Nope. Still have to shave them.
Dry skin/ Oily Skin -causing breakouts - This I would have to say no to.
Musculature is slimmed down - muscles gets smaller - Yes. Definitely. Also lose of fat.
Libido dies - That died a long time ago.
Penis Shrinkage - Some. Or at least seems to have
Ocular shape change - No. Again that would involve changing the bone structure underneath.
Another myth is the change of the shape of the hips and behind. Still built like a boy.

What about the "reshaping" of the body, that is, different parts of the body appearing more feminine, like waist and such? Have you all had your tummy and/or other parts of your body change, like getting more curvy? I personally say this because I'm rather skinny and would like to know if my *ahem* buttocks will get rounder and fuller. I'm 5'8" and 125 lbs, what you girls think?

Well, if you don't have much fat to work with, the effects will be more mild regarding fat distribution. However, muscle reduction is sometimes really impressive. Through fat redistribution, muscle loss and cartillage/tendon/whatever reshaping (as well as bone changes if you're still under 25 and get lucky), your body shape will change towards a more female shape. You should have less volume in the waist, and more in the hips, bosoms and thighs. The upper body will probably slim down the most.
If you want to maximise effects, given that you're quite skinny, gaining a little bit of weight after starting HRT might be a good way to make changes more apparent, if you're able to. If you can do a little cardio exercise whilst doing that, it's probably best, since it helps the fat you have in male spots burn.
For a rounder butt, you might have to do some exercising, though. Muscles tend to slim down on HRT, and I can't guarantee that your butt fat is going to look round. The "round, high and sexy" butt that people want is actually muscle for the most part, I believe. So you'll need hard work. You could look into brazilian butt lifts.

I'm an older person on low dose HRT and i don't really expect many changes from it at my age.
But speaking of the eye changes - before HRT i had smaller eyes, but SOMETHING has certainly changed there. When i look in the mirror the first thing i always notice is that my eyes stand out a lot more than they used to. They look a bit more feminine now, and larger too. Whether that's related to fat distribution or minor changes to the muscles/fat around the eye - i can't say.
