So tomorrow is my court date to get my name legally changed, but I had a few questions about what changes would be made afterwards. I'm going to be getting a few copies of the order of change of name papers, but when going to the social security office afterwards, will I be allowed to change my name AND my gender when I go after my court hearing? The reason I'm asking is because I cannot change my gender on my license until the 18th of June because that is the date of my appointment with my Dr. who will be giving me the official DMV paper with her signature to do so. However, I wanted to get as much changed as possible after the court hearing which is why I want to go to social security office, but, if I do go to the SSO will I have to go back and change my gender if I can't tomorrow without my official gender marker changed? I would wait until I have my gender marker changed to go to the SSO but I've also heard you have to have the most current social security card with my new name on it before I can change my name and gender on my license. So basically what I'm asking is, will I be able to go tomorrow and change my name and gender with the appropriate documents (ex. license, old SSC) or would I need to wait until the 18th so my Dr. would have the "sex reassignment surgery" note stating I've been on T for almost 9 months? Living in California btw.

Social Security is federal, the rules the same all over for gender change. You need a letter from your surgeon that you have had "irreversible genital surgery". That letter needs to be on the surgeons letterhead and include several identifiers of who you are such as your birth date and ssn.
Your name change needs the court papers as you seem to already know.
Your DL can be changed whether or not the SS changes your gender marker.
