Title: Paypal & Birth Names
Post by: Emmy on June 14, 2012, 02:47:58 PM
Alright so I have a Paypal account with my legal name.
When making or receiving a payment, it shows my full name on there.

Is there anyway to hide my name or replace it with something else?

I guess I should be looking on the Paypal site for that, but I figure some of you might know since I can't be the first one this has come up for. xD

Is my only option opening up a business account or is there another solution?

My current account is a premier account and it seems to let me set a business name, but when I buy or sell my full name still appears.

They will update their records if you provide proof of name change.

Just be careful because they bind the name that was on the checking account to the checking account and it isn't visible, but it means that your bank may refuse access.  PayPal support couldn't help me and said just drop the account and readd it with the new name and that worked just fine.

Generally banks will accept payment into your account regardless of who makes them.  But only you can withdraw from the account.

Right but paypal accounts are two way.  I ordered a Christmas present for Shannon from the UK and the bank called Shannon to confirm the payment since it listed my old name and it was not on the account anymore.

Receiving is fine, it is just the payments that the loop hole catches you.

However this is all a subtle point AFTER you fix the paypal name.  If you haven't legally changed your name then you aren't going to be able to do much since it is a financial transaction.
