Title: Spearmint tea- Brands?
Post by: JackieOD on June 20, 2012, 03:31:59 PM

I know there are several topics about spearmint tea, but I was just wondering if there were any particular brands that anyone would recommend. I have been drinking Bigelow, but its ingredients include black tea along with spearmint. There are a couple peppermint teas I've seen where the only ingredient is peppermint. Does anybody know what is more effective or can anybody recommend a better brand?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Why not brew your own? You can buy spearmint at the grocery store or you can even grow some (though be careful, it supposedly starts taking over everything) :)
I made some with gunpowder green tea before (not related to any AA rumors) and it turned out pretty good :) or you can just use the mint leaves if you prefer.
Bagged teas are really dried out and minced up a lot so you probably would not get as much of the actual spearmint in there...

Thank you! I hadn't even thought of making my own tea for some reason. But that seems like the best option. Thanks for the advice! I was also wondering how much of an effect people have seen after a while with spearmint tea. I'm currently on Spiro and Finasteride, but I was wondering if I would see much of an effect at all if I added spearmint. Does anybody have any personal experience?

No experience here, but I doubt it would do anything noticeable vs. what you are on. It's tasty though :)

If the tea was capable of doing what you wanted it would have an enormous warning label on it.

Yes, totally. Don't go for tea brands; they almost only make blends, and that's sub-optimal. Go to a natural food store or specialised tea store and buy a bag of pure dried spearmint. Put into a metal tea ball, add water, and poof, spearmint tea! Ordering from the Internet can also be worth it. I bought mine from Davidstea, and the shipping was free if I ordered two large bags. Though that's a Canadian chain, so shipping might not be possible if you're elsewhere. But really, just look at the website of a specialised tea store chain that you know, or a general online shopping website. You should find some pretty easily.
Oh, and just so you know, peppermint does not have any anti-androgenic effect. Make sure you check. Sometimes it's just written "mint". If you have no way of knowing, assume it's peppermint, since with its more intense taste, it's what's the most used.
