Hello Everyone,
I have finally decided to begin the long and difficult process of transitioning. However, I currently live in an area where there are absolutely no resources for folks such as myself. I will eventually be moving back to a large city; after I finish with cosmetology school. That was my first step, I figured there couldn't be a more appropriate field. And this is where I grew up, so I thought I would spend some time with my family. After I begin transitioning, I will most likely lose them. I realize that may seem bleek, but it's most likely the case. Well, in any event, back to the original point, :)
My questions are about online therapy and ffs. Is online therapy a real option? If so, any recomendations? I was also wondering about home electrolysis. And I've also began researching ffs surgeons. There is an ffs surgeon in Guadalajara, Mexico; was wondering if this was a good idea, his rates are so much cheaper. And lastly, I just turned 38 years old. I know hormone therapy effects everyone differently, but given my current body I think i can achieve a pretty nice figure. Do you think this is unrealistic? Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks!

We can help more if we have a rough idea of where you are. Sometimes there are resources in places you would never expect.

Hi Shannon, :icon_wave:
Welcome to our little family. Over 7301 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion.
Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams. Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.
But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another sister. (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsmileys.on-my-web.com%2Frepository%2FAnimals%2Fferret-3.gif&hash=f49e2f86761323f2abd9c33941920389dbb3b10f)

Hi Shannon, it's nice to meet you! I live up near Boston, there are tons of resources up here. We have a lot of information gathered here on the site, start with the Wiki section, and of course, ask lots of questions! Hugs, Devlyn

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! I have a feeling I will be spending a lot of time on this site, lol. Well, I currently live in Ashland, Ky. It's in the northeast corner, on the borders of Ohio and West Virginia. Boston sounds amazing, I've always wanted to live in New England. I always thought it was too expensive tho. I know I'm going to rely on the support from you ladies. I have told a few select people, but this can be a very isolating realization. However at the same time, it's very exciting! It seems to be pretty overwhelming too, but i suppose that's normal. I guess my next really big decision is where I'm going to live next, or maybe not. ;D
I bought a summer dress today at the local Rite Aid; that was an experience, lol. I guess I'm trying hard to make these kind of decisions, because I know it's going to take a lot more of that to make it. I can't wait to get my license in cosmetology and move somewhere more accepting.

Hi Shannon,
A big, but not so warm (110C)Aussie welcome to Susan's family. You certainly have come to the right place for a mountain of resources and friendships. Congratulations on making that first big bold step in coming to terms with yourself. Not really that hard was it? Same goes for the other hurdles that will challange you along the way.
Anyway, I look forward to hearing more from you in time to come. Otherwise, be safe, well and happy.
Lotsa huggs
Catherine

We all understand that when you are outside a major metropolitan area, it is sometimes difficult to find qualified help.
A number of our members have used online (skype) therapy.
You might want to check our "Therapy" board for leads.

Hi Shannon,
Congratulations on embarking on a very rewarding journey. I'm on the other side of the country, so I can only suggest that you might begin by looking for a good counselor and a good electrologist. Often it is worth calling and asking outright about their experience with male beard removal, for electrologists, and the WPATH standard of care, for counselors.
Looks like there's an electrologist new to Ashland (at Bel Viso Electrology). The 100 miles to Lexington may be difficult for you, but I found two gender therapists listed in Lexington: Diane Klug and Anne Edwards. Also there is Kayla Springer in Cincinatti.
