Seriously, this is not my week, month, whatever. This wasn't just any spider either, it was an especially fast one. I can't even sleep in my bed because my brothers are sleeping there and I'm almost out of clothes but the laundromat isn't open.
Oh my.
Oh my.

True, most spiders are not deadly or dangerous :) It is however important to know which spiders are dangerous and possibly deadly
There is a particular spider prevalent in my area that is aggressive, dangerous and potentially deadly so I have honed my spider recognition abilities and mainly look for this one

I feel your pain. I'm terrified of spiders and hoping crickets. Just seeing that picture rattles me some. I can't sleep without pills if I see one.
As far as I'm concerned every spider is dangerous. Kill them all.

Hobo spiders are "officially" said to only inhabit the Pacific Northwest, but I have seen them and even got bit by one thousands of miles away from the Pacific NW! If there is any piece of information people can and should disregard about spiders, it is the geographic distribution stuff. I had to have surgery to repair necrotic tissue, which did some minor nerve damage to the affected area. The surgeon to this day isn't sure if it was the bite or the surgery that damaged the nerves.
As a rule, spiders do not go looking for humans. A spider would rather run from a human than fight with one. Spiders usually only bite if and when they are trapped between a sleeping or otherwise unaware human and another object.

An interesting note about me: I once had a wolf spider as a pet, I named him "Wolfy". He lived in a medium sized jar which I made for him that allowed oxygen and moisture in, but kept him in safely. He ate crickets and other small insects. Wolfy lived for about a year until he died. :(

RoadToTrista is correct in the context of only TWO spider breeds who do not know fear, but they are not reported to be seen in the U.S. that I have ever known about. Those two spiders are the Brazilian Wandering Spider and the Sydney Funnel Web. They are extremely aggressive!
I know spiders make some people uncomfortable, but they play a vital role in our ecosystem. They help control the population of other insects and varmints.

I still get bit and have to go to war with the hobo spider every year
The shower/bathtub is one place they do get trapped and can be easily disposed of, but how do they get in there?
Most often I catch them on open ground and granted they are kinda stupid and will freeze in place hoping you didn't see them 8) Then it's fairly easy to grab them up in a tissue
But you only get one chance, if you miss they will run and hide and you will have to hope to catch them later or they run into one of the sticky traps where I catch several every year
LOL... Farty jokes to boot

I used to catch hobo spiders when I lived in Spokane...put them in tumbler glasses (about 3" tall, wide and squatty)...the hobos can't climb on glass (or porcelain) and could only run around and around...
clack clackity clackity clack clack..... Plus, you get the added bonus of raising the glass and looking at their underneath bits...I'm fascinated with how the legs join the abdomen...
But damn, they are fast. Like was said earlier...you only get one chance.

Doctors remove spider hiding in woman's ear canal
A woman who went to China's Changsha Central Hospital complaining of itching in the left side of her head was told by doctors that the source of irritation was a spider that had been living inside her ear canal for five days.
Doctors reportedly used a saline solution to flush out the spider in order to avoid having the spider burrow deeper inside the canal or bite her.
The flushing technique was successful and the woman reportedly wept with gratitude after being told the spider was removed. Doctors say they believe the spider entered the woman's home while the home was undergoing renovations, and crawled into her ear while she was sleeping.

The Red Back Spider is a Widow spider as is the New Zealand Katipo (rare),
Interesting that your Black Widow has the red spot on the underside instead of on top.

I was getting a HORRIBLE ear pain one night while trying to go to sleep. I finally got up and rinsed out my ear and a tiny spider came out.
I should never have looked at this thread again... :'(
