Title: Beginnings

Hello everyone.
First of all, I'd like to apologize if this is in the wrong forum. I'm new here and I'm not exactly sure of what I'm doing.
Now that I've gotten that stupidity out of the way, I'd like to talk about my gender identity. Ever since I was little, I've wanted to be a girl. I love the hair, the makeup, the clothes, the shoes, pretty much everything. But I grew out of the wanting to be a girl part, and it turned into just wanting to dress like a girl, but still be a boy, if that makes sense. Recently, however, I've been very confused about whether or not I'm lying to myself. Thinking about actually transitioning brings me happiness, although it also brings fear and terror and the like. But I do feel as though it could bring me out of my depression. I just don't know. I need someone to talk to about this; my mother isn't helping, she's getting mad that I want to take hormones because I'm under 18. I've read that some endocrinologists specializing in transsexuals will start HRT at the age of 14, so I don't see what the big deal is. She seems to think I'm going to regret it. That is why I'm posting here, to find someone to talk to and such.
Thank you girls so much in advance.
Maÿlis

Hi Maÿlis , :icon_wave:
Welcome to our little family. Over 7452 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion.
Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams. Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.
But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another sister. (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsmileys.on-my-web.com%2Frepository%2FAnimals%2Fferret-3.gif&hash=f49e2f86761323f2abd9c33941920389dbb3b10f)

Welcome to the forum. Keep talking to your mom but instead of focusing on HRT focus on your feelings. Try to see a professional to talk about your situation. Maybe mom needs to hear about it from someone else. Keep us posted. We care!

I could be doing better, to be honest. But thank you to all of you, and I will most definitely keep you all posted on what goes on with my journey, if I even decide to pursue it. I see my therapist on Monday and this is a topic worth bringing up, I'm scared but excited.

Welcome, Maylis, from southern California.
"I'm new here and I'm not exactly sure of what I'm doing. '
Don't worry about that. I never am really sure what I am doing.
First things first, though. You have a lot of issues bouncing around in your head. A therapist, and more specific, a therapist experienced in gender issues, can help you sort those things out.
That is the standard protocol in any case ... talk to a therapist before getting a recommendation for hormone therapy. Just to make sure you truly have transgender issues.

Hi Maylis,
A big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. It may be good if you read Jamie D's reply a few times, until you 'own' the good advise she has given you. At this stage, a gender therapist will be your best investment yet.
I look forward to hearing more from you in time to come, so in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.
Lotsa huggs
Catherine
