Katrina Hart
TRAPPED in a man's body, Katrina Harte fought for six years to be transformed into a woman.
But now the 49-year-old is battling health bosses, claiming they have only done half the sex swap op and left her living in limbo.
While the NHS have bankrolled the major sex change part of the surgery, Katrina has had to pay for her own boob job, putting her £4,000 in debt, and the health service is refusing to fund the removal of her Adam's apple, an operation known as a tracheal shave.

this may sound horrible, but being American and having to pay for everything transition related myself and not even able to afford basic health insurance, I can't say I have a lot of sympathy that she had to pay for her own boob job or will have to pay to have a tracheal shave. And I feel like perhaps she should have gone for the tracheal shave before the boob job. I'm thinking she should be happy for what she's gotten done already, which is the bulk of it, on her country's dime.

Where does this country get this dime money? The surgery done on the NHS is not free. We all pay for it in high taxes collectively. She will most probably have already paid for it herself in terms of her national insurance contributions.

I think in order to sole the issue things like ba, ffs, etc could be required. If srs is a treatment for gid then surely all one needs is insulin if they are diabetic. The truth is there is more to it than that. And while cost mqy be higher giving more comprehensive care, the amount of transpeople seeking surgery isn't likely to make much impact. And if it really mattered then there wouldn't be McDonald's in the UK, as i am sure that is more of a drain on nhs than transpeople ever could be.
I would also like to note that here in america, even just getting the srs seems like a dream come true and it is out of reach for many of us, but it is only right that we have solidarity with those fortunate enough to have been born into countries with national health care too, her struggles are not made any less valid by our own. If that were so, then we have nothing to complain about versus a great many third world transpeople who have clean water, much less hormones out of reach.
