Title: antiandrogens
Post by: SUMMERWINE on July 16, 2012, 07:41:28 AM
well im new at seeing the phyc and im pushing to see a gender therapist but i approached the subject of dropping my testosterone levels to  well be blunt make sure that the feelings are not a hormone driven fantasy and to see if it helped my moody times. it seemed like a taboo subject and was told chemical castration which is what it is is something for sex offenders. i was more expecting a helpful approach  as i explained to the physc that if it worked out id go for long term effect with  testicle removal rather than take anti androgens due to meds already taken it seems that the upfront asking has created a reaction i didnt expect. has anyone had just antiandrogens before full hrt

It all depends on what your doctors prescribe. It is not uncommon to be on anti-androgens first, before taking estrogen.

thanks.  i think i may have been too eager with the doc but to me it seemed like a sensible approach. i know they dont like to rush things but i get the feeling i may have to push to get things rolling.

I'd suggest finding a different doc if at all possible - that one sounds uninformed at best and  obstructive at worst.

well this is the second phyc and shes ok. the first wanted to put me on antidepressants and that was all  she wasnt interested. as you know it takes the phyc to refer to gender clinic and shes aware i want that and seems ok with that so theres hope there yet. the problem is that they all refer to each other so if she thinks something is a good move she checks with other consultant and if her underling who i see isnt keen then it all goes back to square one again especially if it involves meds. i dared to make a suggestion to them that maybe they were looking in the wrong area for my moody swings and it could be the testosterone i react to so how about dropping the levels to see if it changed my mood, seems simple to me. the problem with them is that chemical castration has a large lable of sex offender with it and they tread very carefully around that and also its looked on as taking a mans manliness away. ive got through to the doc i see in the clinic that i dont care one bit about manliness as im transgender and my records show that and labels i dont give a dam about either. the process is reversible if its not a success and if it is then im better off. i dont think its high levels i just think that it makes me feel like i dont want to. i dont think they like it if you have ideas of what your problems are they have to come up with it lol lol
