I remember reading about a guy who stopped T after he got a hysto. Just curious if this is safe health-wise.

I mean it seems awesome . . no more periods and no more shots, but doesn't that mean there would be barely any hormones produced in your body? (Someone said that in another thread and it made sense.)

I'm not sure how correct I am, but I thought that it was strongly advised not to stop T if you've had a hysto, or if you are to stop T to take estrogen again as osteoporosis is more likely if there is a very small amount/no hormones in your body.  I think that's why osteoporosis is more common in post-menopausal women as they have lowered amounts of hormones and why hormone blockers aren't prescribed long term.  I'm not sure how accurate I am, and it would be possible to stop T after a hysto but really not advised, especially for long periods of time.

Maybe you wouldn't need as much T because you're not fighting your body's estrogen production anymore. I imagine your best bet is to monitor your levels after with your endo and see if it's going further than it did before.

In the short term, yes. You can stop T. Long term you'd likely have problems (ex: brittle bones) if you didn't supplement hormones after a hysto.

I wouldn't advise it.  Lack of hormones in your body be it E or T can cause  osteoporosis as it's already been said.

What type of hysterectomy did he have?  If it's just the uterus then it's to my understanding that the ovaries are still intact so more hormones are being produced?  If he got the oophorectomy with it then that's another story.

Well your body produces small amts. of T, but I'm not sure it produces enough to keep up the changes. Your body also produces small amts. of E from other areas like the liver.

Also as people have mentioned there is osteoporosis. There are things you can do (weight lifting, Calcium) but still doing this at 40 may be different than doing this at 20, as we talked about on another thread.

Honestly, I don't even know I didn't read the detail I was just browsing blogs. Would it be advised that a transman get his ovaries removed as well?

Not unless you plan to take estrogen.

  What I've been reading in the past that after a hysto, you don't have to take T because the voice changes and the beard growth are permanent once you got them started.  But you may take either HRT regimen to keep up the calcium in the body.  Us MtFs will have to take the HRT the rest of our lives until our 60's after an orchie to upkeep the fat distribution and the calcium.  After 60 is when the dangers of the HRT regimen comes into play more often.

Yeah the beard and voice are permanent but the hair will grow slower, your body will re-feminize if you start back on estrogen, so why would you do it?

Precisely.

Usually within the trans male community when a hysto is spoken of there is an assumption that it will be a total hysto with oophorectomy.  That's probably why everyone said no.

It's hard to say since it depends on what a person wants to do.  If a person plans on staying on T for the rest of their life with no intent on bottom surgery then it may be advised.  I've heard that it's best to do it within 5-10 years of taking T but I've also heard that we just don't have enough long-term studies on the effects of T on the female insides.  At bare minimum the whole process should be monitered  to watch out for anything that could become cancerous with pap smears etc.
