Title: Introduction
Post by: TreeFlower on April 13, 2007, 03:14:53 PM

I'm in my 40's and post op MtoF TG.  I just had my surgery in November 2006.

I had the second most profound experience in my life while I was recovering from GRS surgery in the Dr.'s recovery apartments.  I was and am going through transition alone. I had no one with me there.  I was doing ok until the last day in the hospital.  A nurse screwed up my urine catheter.  It was twisted and got backed up.  She didn't have a clue about what was causing me to double over in pain.  My Dr. was in surgery and couldn't be reached.  The interns were also unavailable. Anyone know what happens if you call 911 while already in the hospital? I was about to find out. Fortunately, I discovered the twisted catheter myself.  Long story short, I lost it.  I realized I was alone and unable to care for myself.  No friends, no family, no one to care for and protect me.  No one to love me.  I thought I outgrew teddy bears.  Guess not.  I snagged one & wouldn't let go.  That wasn't the profound experience.  That was the setup to it.

There were two FtoM couples In the Dr.'s apartments.  They came over and introduced themselves then proceeded to help me. They fetched me some fruit from a local market, rented some movies for me, made me some dinners and made me feel welcome and wanted.  To them it wasn't any big thing. Just a little help and kindness. Something anyone of us would have done if we were in the position to help. To me, it made all the difference in the world.

That's when it hit me.... I need to help others who are transitioning.  Sounds corny but I don't want anyone to have to go through more suffering than they have to.  Being transgendered is difficult enough.

I hope others will benefit from my experiences.  That's why I joined this forum.  I see a Wiki on the site but I haven't had time to check it out. I have a blog http://transgenderedjourney.blogspot.com/ to share my experience.  I'm still gathering info and working on how I want to format it but there's some info about me on it.  Check it out if you want to know more about me. I'll be posting more there.  I hope to also become active in this forum.
