Title: No more pantalon
Post by: peky on August 12, 2012, 12:18:19 PM
So, like I have posted, i have been doing the so called RLE for over 2 years (I think), and for the last few months I started wearing skirts and dresses almost every day.

I feel I cannot longer go back to slacks, jeans, or shorts. The other day I had to do some work that demanded to be in jeans, and even thought I was wearing my most revealing ass-tight bare-back jeans, I still could not wait to get out of them. The most I can tolerate now a days is yoga pants,

Anybody with similar experience?

I basicly live in scrubs, so when I get home I am all about sundresses.

I've worn skirts a couple times, and yes, I'm inclined to wear them exclusively. Not enough clothes/shoes to go with them (yet)... ;)

Knee-length to mid-calf length.

Yes!!!!!
I absolutely hate pants now.
Plus in pants, people dont really know what I am. Put me in a dress and its obvious I'm a woman. Not so much because of how I look, but because my whole attitude and way of moving changes.
I would wear high waisted shorts with leggings though. But I currently don't own any and don't have the money too either.

;D I never wear anything but skirts, Summer or winter period! I absolutely love the style and I am just not comfortable anymore tucking in order to wear pants.

Thank you for resurrecting this thread...LOL

So, yeah, almost a year ago, and well nothing has changed much I am still on skirts and dresses as much as I can.

I have been looking for skorts but I have not had much luck find them locally   :(

I actually like pants still, at least for being lazy around my home.  I've switched over to women's cuts, of course, but I don't think I'm likely to stop being a 't-shirt and jeans' kind of girl except when I'm going out ^^;

I have a ton of skirts and a couple of skorts too. the sad thing is , I have only been out in them less then a handful of times. I do enjoy them but for some reason i mostly wear jeans or slacks . I should really wear them more. in fact that's what I will do on Thursday when I see my trans doc.

Cannot say I had that experience. At least not for long. In my mid 20ies at the beginning of transition I had a time where I really thought I wanted that, but I got bored of skirts quickly and found them at times cumbersome. One has to pay more attention to everything from sitting down to weather to stuff that one can rip a skirt on if walking by. Not to mention that they are cold in fall winter and spring... so I did wear them only if I really wanted to get attention, like in a dance club. Never ever did I show up in one at my therapist who had to sign off for SRS, which was kind of funny as he demanded a 2 year real life experience before SRS and was used that the begin of that is usually marked with MtF people wearing skirts - while i was not ;)
Now I must admit, that I would like to wear them more. I just dont have so much occasions anymore. No more danc clubs at this time - I am feeling a bit old for that now, going towards 40 - and I feel that most of them do not even look good at me, which is probably due to overweight issues. I do wear a dress all the time when I am going for some days to a medieval reenactment several times a year though and that is quite nice (except the skin rub when sweating and walking too much). People say I look good in those. But I hadrly can put them on at any other time :P

For me, I think pants are an important part of a girl's wardrobe.  They're functional and versatile, but can still give a good statement with color or style.  I think the biggest wardrobe changes I am going to make is mostly to throw out ALL of my stupid polo shirts and all of my clumsy, baggy shorts.  Get some looser T-s, maybe a few scarves, some sensible, shin-length skirts (I don't think I'm a short-skirt or hotpants kind of girl...) but I would definitely still be wearing my trousers.  Heh, ironically, I want to see if I can pull of a double switch, like a tomboy.  I like my wide-brimmed Indiana Jones hat too much. >.<

I dont find that too ironic. Actually when I transitioned I always had the idea somehow that my goal would be to switch to the female so completely in body and how I just am, that I could wear anything even male stuff and still have no issues with it, still be seen as a woman. I did not want to depend on clothes to be perceived as myself. Tough goal of course. If that can be reached, I suspect it depends on luck and good body properties to begin with. But I dont think it is really ironic - why should it be - you want to be perceived as FEMALE, not necessarily as someone (also) being FEMININE.

I have to tuck...a dress or skirt just doesn't look right with that...bulge in front.

Chaffing when walking is a problem too....any fixes for that?

Chaffing is probably THE reason why I basically NEVER wear skirts or dresses. If that would not be so, I probably would at least once in a while in summer do that. The only remedy I heard up to now was to loose weight and/or to wear pantyhose (which I abhor).

Oh and how I hated that "bulge" - Pants made that not much better. And I was a wimp and could not stand the more painful but efficient tucking methods. Such a relief once SRS was done...

I like clothing. Pants, dresses, jeans, shorts, tights, whatevs. If it serves my needs, I'm down.

A bunch of options are listed here: http://www.hobomama.com/2012/09/no-chafing-options-for-skirts.html

LOL - that link is great, though it more or less says that all the options are not great (tried some myself and agree) but hey give an option that looks funny enough - pettipants, bloomers and pantaloons. Just look back 100 years and there is often a solution already tried and tested. And of course if in doubt, always take the victorian choice ;)
Though - was the title of the thread not something about not using pantaloons? That would then be a bit paradoxical now ;)

Holy Clothing (http://holyclothing.com/index.php/dresses.html) is a company that originated to create Ren Fest costumes but found that many of their best sellers were being worn by people out and about casually.

I currently have a few of their dresses and plan to get more. I love the ones I have so far. They also have some awesome tops, and some very interesting pants designs (loose flowing types that can be mistaken for skirts depending on perspective).

I highly recommend them.

We had one day of warm weather and I took the opportunity to wear a skirt with stockings to work for the first time.

It's wonderful.

People who've followed my story know it's characteristic of my non-binary gender that I have trouble "feeling like a woman" no matter how desperately I want to be one.

The skirt helps. When I look down, and see my stockinged legs and chic boots and feel how my legs rub together, I feel deliciously feminine and deliciously sexy (not really how I want to feel at work, but I'll take it when I can get it). Alas, weather is predicted below freezing tonight so can't repeat it tomorrow, but I'm savoring it as much as I can.

Hehe - I used the cop out method yesterday - ultrawide pants that totally look like a skirt most of the time but no chafing at all. It was weird though - people dont know me in a skirt so I got comments all over the place. That made me a bit feel odd. Reminded me of the time when I transitioned and people tried to encourage me to dress more feminine in an attempt to boost my confidence in presenting fully female. It was a sure sign that I did not pass back then if women told me that it looks good on me if I wear a skirt and that I should do it more often. Nowadays I dont think it is that anymore really but I am reminded of it.

oh suzyfrommd... how lucky you are to wear a skirt, hose and boots to work! how i wish i could do that... reading your post, i understand it isn't your number 1 choice of dress but it sure is, or would be for me. if i ever decide to go full time, i can't imagine not wearing skirts, hose and heels or boots to work or anywhere else all the time. i am sure it might get stale after a while but the feeling of femininity you describe is heavenly :)
