I had a cosmetic tracheal shave back in April 2010, and while it did get rid of my adam's apple and has caused no further physical problems, there is still a promiment red scar which bothers me, as it is still rather noticeable. I once asked a nurse about this and was given a vague comment that it would 'go away in time' but it has not done so. I find it suspicious that it has not disappeared when I have seen other wounds of mine disappear far more quickly, not least my SRS 'scars' which have almost completely disappeared after just nine months.

Is there anything I can do to reduce the appearance of the scar? And any other experiences of such a scar to be permanent? It pretty much looks the same as it did the day after I had the surgery.

It was covered for seven days while the wire was still in place, and the covering was removed after the seven days along with the wire. I haven't had any other issues aside from the cosmetic one.

If it is a keloid or raised scar you can use a silicon sheet product to flatten it and lessen the redness.

If the scar is already flat you might look into using Retin A on it or even needle rolling.

I had an adhesion after my trach shave.  The skin bonded with the muscle and when I swallowed my neck skin pulled downwards.  It was awful and caused me a lot of social & job problems which I still suffer from.  It finally went away on it's own.

I have a lot of FFS scars that I have faded by using aspirin & yogurt facial scrubs, alpha hydroxy acid and occasionally retin A.  I used Retin A to fade the vaginoplasty scars and though itchy and burney it really helped (on my outer labia) do not use internally.

I have done about six needle roller treatments on my face and am presently recovering from the last one, the needle roller is miraculous in my own experiences, that and a good vitamin C serum before moisturizing is amazing.  I make my own vitamin C serum with Ball Fruit-fresh powder from the canning or spices/pickling section of the grocery store.  I also add some AHA but I have been doing these sorts of things for years now.  My mom can't believe when I don't have makeup on, she thinks I have makeup on and is always asking me what I am doing for my skin.

I also take vitamins and supplements for skin health and I try to eat blueberries, pomegranate and Resveratrol every day

I find Bio-oil works pretty well on Old Scars

I have some pretty major burn scars on my arms that Bio-Oil helped soften over time
They're not surgical scars though, but I'm sure it would work the same :)

If you're looking for more drastic change with the expensive route, Laser Scar Removal has been suggested to me and I've seen pretty nice outcomes with the treatments

Try to keep some blood circulation going the scar by massaging it

I still have scar from tracheal shave after many years but it's at the crease so it's barely visible. I think Alpha Hydroxy Acid like Estée Lauder's Fruition may help a bit with darkened tissue.

I have the same thing. Short red scar visible on my neck over a year after the surgery. All my other scars, including my bottom surgery stuff from only 6 months ago have already faded to white nothings. I'm usually a really fast healer so it kind of stands out. I dunno, something about that area I guess. I've been using an AHA on it, but still there so far.
