I'm curious as to weather or not to tip my laser tech.  Does it work like other services?  I'm not sure if I should or not.  What do you all do?

No, well not where I live (SA) - it could even be considered somewhat patronizing?

I don't. I see it as a medical service (i.e., it's supervised by a Dr.), so tipping would be inappropriate.

I did tip my waxing lady, though. (US$10-$20, depending on where/what she'd done)

If it is the owner of the buisness who is doing my laser, I leave no tip. But if it is an employee then they get 5-10 bucks, depending on what I can afford and the service I got.
Most laser places are set up with other 'spa' services and it is customary to tip your spa workers. 
Also if you have a habit of tiping your provider she will remember that and give you very personal service and extras in many cases. Got my upper lip done free by the laser tech lady a number of times as long as I 'don't tell the boss'.

See here's the kicker, the place I go to is a medical spa.. so they have a doctor/owner and they offer some advanced medical stuff.. but also many spa services. The owener isn't the tech.. so I'm torn.

Then call the buisness ask for the manager and ask them if tiping the laser techs is an acceptable practice at their establishment.

I just asked my laser tech if she accepted tips. She said that she is not allowed to, but she really appreciated me asking. I think that just asking is going to be the best way to get an answer. Just make sure you have a tip with you in case they say yes.

I never asked if they are cool with tips or not. I just put the cash on the counter next to the clipboard with my information and SOAP notes.
But I did notice a major diferance in my service from the first time I was served and the second time. And as the last 2 years have gone by I have had a couple of changes of laser techs and every time I tip the new girl and the service I get from her the subsequent sessions is a major differance.

Even if the place did not allow tiping I would still do it on the sly and insist that they take my tip if they objected. The extra 5-10 bucks a session I have spent has neted me more in extras than it would have cost me to purchase those extras.

Hmm...I never thought of tipping my laser tech because I consider them more of a medical facility than a typical spa. I thought at a certain level of profession, employees would not take tips from customers. For example, in Las Vegas of all places, when I was checking in at the Bellagio, the front desk lady would not take my $20 tips!?! Maybe in my next hair laser session I'll ask if he always gets tips from customers.

Talking about Vegas, I'm not able to afford extravagant hotels like Bellagio anymore. The best I can do right now is Motel 6, eating Ramen noodles for dinner LOL!

I tip mine $20 a visit. She takes care of me now. I originally went on a groupon and now she charges me $50 a visit for my face and she does my back and chest for $100. I have a feeling if I didn't tip well from the beginning that I would probably be paying standard rates.

You know I actually got a Groupon deal for mine also.. the first few times I didn't tip because honestly I was really that broke.. but last time (4th treatment) I left her $80 to make up for the other three.. I did also give her a thank you note.  So in three weeks when I'm in for number 5 we'll see how she is.. she's always been great from the start so I felt bad NOT tipping.. and if things go well with clearing my face I may go with them for everything else if they can cut me a deal.
