Does anyone have any ways to psych me up for coming out? I want to come out tonight and I just need to muster up the gumption to do it. Liquid courage is outta the question (underage). So how did you psych yourself up for coming out?

Honestly, I just sat my mother down and told her. I was tired of having it be a secret.
You should do it when you are ready. Best thing to do is not overthink it. The more overthinking you do, the more scared you'll probably be. Just do it like ripping off a bandaid.

There is no easy way to do it, for me it was come out and face the consequences or end it, i chose to see how i fared with the coming out. best you just get it over with if feel you are ready, but there will be next to nothing someone can say to make it easier on you, i wont say man up and do it, as its probably the hardest thing you'll have to do during your transition, i will however wish you the best of luck in doing so :)

Admittedly I am a lot older, but I came out to my mother from the medical angle, after reassuring her I didn't have Body Dysphoria and want to have a leg cut off.
It is probably the one time that bottom surgery for you guys being less popular is a plus. People tend to freak out about us girls "chopping it off."
Hope it goes well.
Karen.

this is just my opinion of course, but i find that along with the 'horror' people feel at like having that bit chopped off, that its somehow 'shameful' to "want" to be a woman. (i hope that makes sense?) like it seems with FTM its not a big issue for people to understand, but when you swap it around to MTF its like this 'big deal'

I couldn't agree more. It is the sort of stuff we are covering in 'Sex and Bodies' this Semester in Gender Studies. How people relate to others depending on their body shape. Last Semester it was 'Gender, Power and Change.' All about the Gender Order and our heteronormative, male dominated society.
Being a mature age student means that I can actually talk about the 60's and the early days of Women's Lib etc. from personal experience. It's fun.

I wrotte my thoughts down before I came out to my dad. and tried to imaginate the situation in my head.
it helped.
