Title: Coming out to my side of the family

I sat down and wrote a coming out letter to my mom, and one of my brothers today. It is kinda long but I think that it covers all the essentials. Previously I came out to my wife's side of the family, and of course to my daughter and her husband. So it's the turn of my side.
I guess the one thing that I have going for me is that we are not close at all. My mom and step dad live in England so my chances of ever seeing them again are remote. and although my brother lives in the same province, we rarely communicate, or visit. I'm prepared for the worst, but as I mentioned we are not close so their reaction to my revelations will not be earth shattering, as some here at Susan's have experienced. For that I'm thankful.
It will take 4 -5 days for the mail to get to England so I have at least that long to wait for a response, if any comes. So I guess it's a wait and see thing.
Chat later,
Steph

Good luck Steph. Even if you're not close, it would still be good to be accepted for who you are.

In many ways a letter might be better than being in person, because you can't interrupt a letter. Even though I live close to my parents I am now thinking of writing a letter as well. I can usually express myself better when the words are written down.
Here's hoping for the best, Steph!

Thanks so much for all your kind thoughts and words. It's comforting to know that there is always a place to go for help, advice and simple comforting words when facing new challenges and those little pot holes in the road ahead.
Thanks again,
Steph

hi Steph,
all the best wishes from me, too... just got to reading this section, hence the delayed reaction...
Alex
PS can i just say that i admire everyone who's coming out to their families. I wish you all a lot of courage. I had a hard time dealing with my family and still have, but i'll save m,y story for elsewhere as it doesn;t really fit this part of the forum...
much love to all!

Stephanie,
I hope your family is as open as my sister is to me. You are in my thoughts and prayers. (as are all my sisters and brothers here at Susans!)

Well they haven't relied yet so I'm assuming that it went over like a lead balloon :)
That's ok, it's what I was expecting, but who knows they may come round... Naaah they won't :)

If they don't reply it is certainly their loss. They will not get to know a wonderful daughter and sister. My parents passed without ever knowing they had a lost daughter and I regret that.

Big big hugs Steph,
Who knows it's a lot to come to grips with there's still a maybe.
If not there's always us to put upwith.
XOXOX Shelley
