Title: Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K)
Post by: Sawdust on September 14, 2012, 01:27:13 AM
It used to air on the Sci-Fi channel. I just recently started marathoning it on Youtube due to the hype I have for the most recent Rifftrax Live event.

For those who don't know about MST3K, I'll just quote the Wikipedia description, since it's fairly accurate.
"The series features a man and his robot sidekicks who are trapped on a space station by an evil scientist and forced to watch a selection of bad movies, often (but not limited to) science fiction B-movies. To stay sane, the man and his robots provide a running commentary on each film, making fun of its flaws and wisecracking (or "riffing") their way through each reel in the style of a movie-theater peanut gallery. Each film is presented with a superimposition of the man and robots' silhouettes along the bottom of the screen."

It's really fun even though the episodes are pretty long for a TV show. I'd also have to say that I enjoy the pacing much better on the later seasons.

I can't believe I missed this post until now! This is one of my very favorite shows!! I haven't seen every episode, but god, it kills me when I watch it. Some of my favorite episodes are... obviously manos the hands of fate.. The final sacrifice.. I think that is the one with rowsdower. So many it's hard to remember them all. Agh! Teenage strangler is a classic. I have a favoritism for mike episodes, however! Here is one of my favorite videos for when I need a good laugh. :icon_mrhappy:

MST3k is one of the best cable shows of all time!  Every so often I do break out in doing the Sandy Frank song!

I loved MST3K back when I was a LOT younger (early- to mid-20's). I had no idea that it was still on...are they reruns, or new episodes?

I'm almost afraid to watch them, because of the "Gilligan's Island" effect...a show that was funny when we were 8, is *not* funny when we're 38...

Hey, Gilligan's Island will always be one of the greatest shows ever on television!

And I always liked the show too, but unfortunately so many good things fall by the wayside in programming over the years and of course, SyFy(formerly Sci-Fi) went to hell in a handbasket a few years before they changed their name. I mean seriously, all the ghost crap and wrestling?   *shakes head sadly*

Being a wrestling fan, I do take umbridge about the wrestling line.  I know why they are doing it, since NBC/Universal doesn't want to make USA overflowed with wrestling, so they ship it off to Syfy and get 2-3 million pairs of eyeballs to watch every week.

Back to the original topic, did anybody usually get giddy when they would go after a Robert Lippert or a Ed Wood or a Joe Don Baker movie?
