It appears to be more effective than Ad-Aware.

Nonetheless, I use them in conjunction with each other.

My system is slow as a tater bug.  Thanks for the referral.  I'm going to check this out before I rebuild my system.  I hate it when they ship all this crap software.  You uninstall it and it breaks your registry files or something. I've already done a defrag. I'm at a loss as what else to do before starting over.

there is no such thing as a good anti spyware program.  the best way to get rid of virused and adwar/spyware, reinstall your operating system, it is good for the computer anyway.

Respectfully, I have issues with this and redoing the OS is not always a practical nor viable option.

with proper backups, it works quickly with no loss of important information

It is still contingent upon several important 'individual user' unique factors; factors which must be considered.

I am not necessarily rejecting nor refuting what you have asserted, however.

For me to re-partition or re-format the disk and redo the OS installation, takes hours.

I do far more intricate and technical OS configuration and 'tweaking' than the the 'average' user, for speed, efficiency, control and security. That takes time to do.

The 'mission criticality' of the system, downtime, potential loss of individual configurations and settings, etc., etc., etc., for the individual user must be evaluated and considered.

'Rachel' is a pretty name BTW. I have always liked it.   :)

and you make very good points, im just a fan of OSRI because it is guarenteed, and it usually doesnt have enough downtime for me to be a problem

I run AVG Anti-Spyware.  I had a problem a year or so ago and neither Ad-aware nor Spy-bot could clean it up.  AVG got it with no problems.  Unfortunately, it isn't free like the other two, but you can get a 30 day trial.

No, I don't own any of the company, nor do I get free software for making comments like this.

I use spybot and AVG antivirus. Keeps my system pretty clean. Then again i have pretty safe surfing habits and only became infected with my first bug a few years back (been on the 'Net since the mid 90s) and that is when I first started using antivirus software.

Some of us actually like playing our computer games. :)  I think Macs are fine computers, but at least half of the software I run would not work on a Mac.  Sure there are emulators, but I've seen them in action and the speed at which they run renders them impractical.  A better option might be linux being that it's emulator runs the software faster.

Melissa, if you wanna use windows programs, use the third party software BOOTCAMP, which lets you dual boot to another OS.  Then install xp on there aswell for when you need to run windows programs, and use mac for the rest.

I tried to use a MAC long ago; it drove me nuts [well, more nuts ::)].

I hate the interface.

That might work for the newer intel macs, but not for the PowerPC processors since emulation would be necessary and cause the games to run too slow.  Besides, who wants to dual boot anyways?  And wouldn't installing windows XP kind of defeat the purpose?  You would still need the anti-spyware software anyways.

The new intel Macs are blazing fast and run games like there is no tomorrow.  I'm running Call of Duty 2 on my 24" iMac - very impressive.

But then to each his/her own.  :)
