I don't watch TV anymore, but I am finding a lot of stories about that show being a fraud.  This is not the first time TLC has done this.  I remember a documentary show in 2006 before my TV went out that did counter studies on established history that was using the improper scientific methods.  That was narrated by Stockard Channing.  I don't remember the name of that show.  One of the reasons I did not replace that TV.

Yes, Breaking amish.
One of the girls had her teeth forcibly removed (with out anesthesia ) and replaced with ill fitting ugly dentures. She was given a proper set at no charge from the studio  and when asked why her teeth were pulled she said something like " Sometimes religious reasons are more important" It reminded me of the genital, foot, neck, breast mutilation that  occur in deeply religious groups.

In that case, I have moved this thread from Spirituality to its proper category, Television. Hugs, Devlyn

Don't believe everything you watch.

TLC's new reality show Breaking Amish is not quite what it appears to be, and now the network is admitting it. "There is a lot of information floating around about the group featured on Breaking Amish. Much of it is not true, but some of it is — and is addressed in upcoming episodes," TLC said today.

I thought some of them knew  too much. Reminds me of when i came out of my Religious group. :) They made large breasted woman bind and men had to wear suitably baggy pants. No cleavage at all.
Woman hair was always up in a bun and men were asked to cut hair every 2 months. No TV, doctors, music (except gospel) alcohol, caffeine, spicy food and.... darn.. im trying to forget all that.
It was a whole new world.
