Title: Does anyone else not like Halloween?

I don't. I don't like the macabre elements (skeletons, ghosts, ghouls, etc), I don't like the implied threat of "tricks" if you don't "pay off" the local hoodlums with "treats" (even though nothing really happens)...I don't like spending gobs of money on costumes that I'll wear once, at most twice.
I don't know, I'm just not a Hollow Wiener, I guess. ;)

And I will note that I am in a MUCH better mood and mental location than I was earlier tonight. Thank you for your patience and consideration.
And point #2...I am sober.

I don't care for the commercialism that Halloween has become.
Like many who have their religious holidays, Samhain (pronounced "Soween") is the fall harvest festival and beginning of winter.
Happy Samhain, Beth. Glad you are feeling betterish. (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsmileys.on-my-web.com%2Frepository%2FAnimals%2Fferret-3.gif&hash=f49e2f86761323f2abd9c33941920389dbb3b10f)

Thanks Janet! I'm having a big glass of ice water right now.
And Hot Tamales candies. (I love these things!)
I wonder if the commercialization of all holidays is what's in the future? I remember when I was a kid how parents complained about C-mas being "commercial"...now Easter is...now 4 of July is...even Memorial Day is!
All the holidays have lights, inflatable lawn ornaments, sales of doo-dads to help people get in the mood...
But nevermind all that. It's the gallons of fake blood, axes stuck in heads, and skeletons coming out of the ground (and BIG spiders on the houses! YIKES!) that disturb me.

Actually, there's not a single holiday that I care about.

Well, aren't you just a barrel of fun the entire freakin' year...
I think, for myself, that the only holiday that I raelly, raelly get into is Thanksgiving. The food, the leftovers, the weather...the cheesy Pilgrims and
Yeah, I'd hit that. ^-^

Now, real spiders are cool. It's the fake meter-wide ones that get me in a tizzy. (I'm glad they haven't put in little red lights for eyes (yet))

When we were growing up, we were always too poor to consider buying or renting a costume. We always made ours. It was the sewing, gluing, cutting, stapling, scavenging, improvising that I loved. When my step-grandchildren decided store-bought was there firm preference, I lost my reason to care about it. I am lucky though, several of my nieces carry on the crafting and cosplay tradition (year round).
Our halloween ritual now is to buy a bowl o good chocolates, turn off the porch light, and stay in.
I always wondered about the proximity of Samhein/Halloween and Election Day in this country. One is a sacred day that has been increasingly commercialized and profaned in the pursuit of profit and power for the very rich, and the other is... likewise.
This is the first year I'm voting as Madeline, and can't wait to receive my ballot.
Miss you Beth Andrea!

There is a developing trend to hole Halloween Balls in the GLBTIQ community, but as we don't actually mark Halloween here, it is generally viewed as a silly American innovation. :D
