That last one that thought it was ok did a great job of associating crossdressing with sexual orientation....

Yeah, it's bugging me how people keep confusing sexual orientation and gender orientation. Oh well. More education to do.

This is exactly what I went through at age six. My mother's reaction was quite forthright.
It was the day I learned to keep my mouth shut and bottle myself up inside. It was 40 years before I could ever speak of it. Even now, typing this, the tears are flowing again.

It was a battle between anger and tears.... and the boy looked so cute!! The other people were terrible.
And the girl, well either way I see nothing wrong with dressing on halloween however you want.

Stuff like this makes me so angry! Maybe this kid is gender variant maybe he is homosexual, it doesn't matter. He is six!
All this kid wants to do is dress up for Halloween as a character from a Disney film and people make a big deal out of it! To me its appalling.

It always PO's me when people, especially parents, try to enforce their biases on their children. Let the children explore who they are. They are adaptable. I am one of the many who was not allowed to, or was punished for trying to express myself.
The last gal was on the right track, but once again she seems to think that girls who want to be a powerful superhero, who is traditionally male, that they may "turn" gay.
People need to get their heads out of the anal sphincters.

2:41 --> A six-year-old --> "War is bad." Yay, I can finally have faith in this generation again!
The second mom at least had a good reason. I know from experience that kids are cruel. :'(
She said that the mom thought of it that way. I'm sure she gets the difference.
Also, Belle is a twinkling fairy who flies and gets trapped in pumpkins or something. Spider-Man can lift 20 tons, beat the crap out of several supervillains while bleeding from a SNIPER RIFLE blast to the abdomen, and swing on high-tech webs. Who would you rather be for Halloween? :P

Memory
All alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
I was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again

...Lol! The world needs to lighten up really!
I was really lucky as a child. My mother let me play with whatever toys I wanted and act however I wanted. She never thought the things you liked defined your gender.

yes
my gender expression was all over the place as a child, but I consistently identified more with male characters because most of the female characters I was exposed to as a child spent most of their time being pretty useless or fretting over whether or not boys would like them.

I understand. If anything, you can go as Jessica Drew, otherwise known as Spider-Woman. Is that fair, moms? :P
Still, I have to say that in today's world, boys would probably get picked on more for Halloween cross-dressing than girls. Heck, my sister went as Batman last Halloween. She's 19 and still goes trick-or-treating (For the candy ).

I can't help questioning the economics of that. Seems like you could easily buy exactly the candy you want in better quantities using the time and tedium involved with T or Ting.

OKAY, I calmed down some. But I got to thinking, would I limit my child for costumes? YES, I would not want to have anything evil , gory or horror.... i.e. no politians. Still I would not like to limit them...

It's free, though. Plus, it's fun to go about in costume. :P

I always got to be a princess at Halloween! Ah, those were the days...
Kids should be let to dress up however they want! Princesses are much better than the violent blood and gore most boys choose.

My kid - obviously a while ago - went as Ross Perot, he nailed it, very funny.
Oh yeah, adults need to stay out of kids stuff like Halloween. Somewhere around puberty they obviously developed beyond their ability to understand it anymore.

Hey, I'm 51 and plan to be Cat Woman... Again ::) I guess I'm still young at heart
I don't actually plan on going trick or treating  I just dress up for the kids that go about and give them some candies when they come to the door... What kid doesn't love getting treats from Cat Woman?
Meow...
But yeah, kids should be able to dress up in whatever costume they desire

That's Tinkerbell.
Belle is the independent-minded, book-loving inventor's daughter who refuses to marry the town's biggest, most arrogant meathead even when threatened and coerced. Pretty kickass character choice for a Halloween costume IMO.

'What Would You Do?' Features Young Boy Who Wants To Be Princess For Halloween
What would you do if your 7-year-old son wanted to be a princess for Halloween?
That was the premise of the latest installment of ABC's "What Would You Do?" which featured a young boy who tossed aside Hulk and Spiderman costumes in favor of Belle from Disney's "Beauty and the Beast."
The reactions from fellow customers as they observe the debate between Mom and son are, at times, hilarious and certainly telling -- and get even more intense when a nine-year-old girl appears, determined to wear a boy's costume.

I would make sure he got the best princess costume I could afford. I want my son to be happy, and do not care how he chooses to express himself as long as he is not being mean to someone.

I'd remember it's a kids holiday in which playing dress up is a major part. If dressing like the devil doesn't' condemn your soul to hell for all eternity, then I'm sure that dressing as a prince or a princess won't make them royalty either. Nor would it change their gender. Adults should stay out of kids activities unless they can emulate the right kind of thinking that's required.

My mom did put me in a dress for Halloween once around 1963. My aunt and uncle crossdressed for a Halloween party back then and was the smash of the party, the others thought they were another couple! That's why I put up this thread. It was not unusal to find boys in dresses on Halloween back then. It is a lot harder in this PC world now or should I say 'Gender Correct'.

Well, kids are cruel, and the boy would probably be teased, so I probably wouldn't let my son do it because I know how bad it was to be the victim of the school, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I need to watch that in a bit, but to answer the question myself:
At 7 years old, I'd suggest something else. He was already the oddball in his class, and sensitive to people laughing and whatnot, so I know it wouldn't have had a happy ending.
After 11.. Go for it. Actually, he did dress up like a princess for x-mas eve one year.. just to get a reaction outta his granny. Her reaction? "Oh my God look at him! So cute!" *grabs camera*

I would make sure he was the cutest princess ever. And I would not allow any narrow mind adult tell him otherwise.
