The laundry room of my apartment building is downstairs, as is the garage. Well, tonight when I got home from therapy (so I was presenting female), my brand new across the hall neighbor who I just met Sunday was coming out of the laundry room as I was coming in from the garage. I've been going in and out of my apartment for months as a woman so being caught didn't phase me as I've long been mentally prepared for it. I just said, "hi neighbor" and the guy didn't recognize me or clock me! I didn't even try to make my voice sound female! I figured that'd give me away for sure. I asked him if he really couldn't recognize me and he was all, "my male name!?" and complimented me on my outfit. I told him I was trans, male to female, which seemed to stun him. Though he did still pull open and hold the door to the elevator for me. I thanked him.
Some neighbor was going to find out eventually, especially with estrogen starting next month and full time on the horizon.
The events kinda gave me a little pick me up. Just wanted to share.

Nice one. ;D
I keep going on about confidence being the key - I think you just proved my point....
Well done and thank you

Thanks for posting this Misato, I'm glad to hear such positive experience.
I'm moving out to my own apartment in a complex, even though I will present as male when first moving in I plan to spend as much time presenting as female as possible. It's good to have real life experiences stored in mind to ward off the usual paranoia!
