Hello ladies, I thought maybe I could get a little help in finding my next legal name. I'm currently in the process of making things official and I'm stumped trying to figure it out on my own. My wife and son have been trying to come up with names (yes, that's right, I have a VERY accepting family and thank God for that one) and they have suggested more than a few.
I have been using Stephanie for a while now and I do like it but I just want to make sure that I have it right before I make it all legal and written in stone.
Names that I have considered in the past...
Stephanie, Ashley, Brooke, Jessicah, and Zen. Yeah I know, no WOW factor.
To give you a little background (in hopes that might help) I am into horseback riding, hiking, nature walks, I'm a musician (and I've started playing in a band too), drawing, I have 2 black belts in Karate and use to teach it as well, I was raised Mediterenean Jewish, but I am Buddhist, I am girly but I would consider myself to be what is called in the Lesbian world as a FemButch. Def not the Diva type. I also play a lot of video games and I work in that industry too.I have a great sense of humor. I love being a parent to a baby girl and teen age boy.
So I don't know if any of that would help. LOL Gawd, it looks like an ad in the personals LOL
Anywho, take yer best shot!
Thanks for taking the time. ;D

Have you considered asking your parents what they would have named you had you been born in the correct skin?

Unfortunately, I lost my father several years ago to Cancer and my mom although nice about it all still has some ways to go with my new self. So, I WISH I could do that but it's not going to be anything that would happen soon. But, it was a great idea and I thank you for your suggestions!

I'm sorry :embarrassed:
I've always liked Hannah, Jenna, Heather, Megan, Crystal, Nicole.
I'd avoid "Wow factor" names, simply because they tend to draw attention, and it seems like a lot of us tend to pick ultra feminine or "trendy" names of young celebs. Maybe look at the top 20 names of your birth year?

Hi Stephanie,
Ashley is nice. I have a friend who goes by Cassandra that I really like as a name (you being a musician, there is a jazz singer Cassandra Wilson). I remember a book made into a movie "Where the Boys Are," and I liked one of the characters name, Merit, rather different. I looked at her as being a person of merit. That could be a name that says a lot about your courage in becoming the authentic you. I have thought that if I were a girl I would choose Merit. That is just me.
Good luck in selecting a name that is you.
Hugs
Jamie

I did a search for the most common baby names in the decade I was born, then picked out my favorites and narrowed it down from there.

i think people worry too much about having names that "pass". I have two daughters whose names are Mystic and Luna. Everyone thinks they have the coolest names and they've never asked me why i didn't give them more "normal" names. They each have two middle names as well.
When I chose a female name I wanted something that reflected my character and beliefs and "felt" right. Sage is actually one of my middle names and it's gender neutral so I can use it in boy or girl mode. My first name and first middle name (of two) are both obviously feminine but feel very right to me.
A name is more than a label that you identify yourself by, it's part of who you are (yet obviously doesn't define you). I think this is one of those things your just going to have to sit down and figure out on your own. Spend the hours (or days) going through baby name books or websites - that's what I did.
I suggest looking for names based on meanings first - if you like Zen but feel it might be too "out there" look for other names that imply or mean "peace" or "stillness" or something "zen-like". :) Maybe something like "Satori"?
Also, be sure to consider nicknames. My first name, Evangeline, has multiple nicknames associated which I can have fun with.
Sorry, no easy answer or suggestions - just a recommendation to figure out who you are and who you want others to think you are.
- Sage

Sage - you are right, you daughters are lucky to have such cool names!
Stephanie - Just go with what feels right. My gf and I discuss names frequently and we actually think about a lot of video game ones. Ayla, Freya, Terra (and this one can sound normal like Tara... it's just spelled cooler!! :P). Some other names I like come from books, like Malta.
Idk if you can be more out there with your name than other have already been. What are Frank Zappa's daughters names.. Diva Muffin and Moon Unit? I love those names :P Or Penn Jillette's daughter, Moxie Crimefighter Jillette. Moxie is a cute name!
Some more normal names I like are Abigail, Molly, Polly, Patty... errr... my gf likes the name Chloe. Idk if any of these tickle your fancy, but I figured I'd just throw em out there :P

I had absolutely no idea, so wrote down all the names I could think of that were not feminine versions of my male names, along with a list of all the female names I liked that were not those of women I knew.
That night I dreamed I was being introduced to someone as "Karen." Simple as that really.

I ruled out names the same way too. No family or friends names. Fortunately I have an excessively large family, so that knocked off about 90% of the list to make it easier.

oh my god! What great ideas! I really like what all of you have posted. this is making me think. I like those Buddhist oriented names to and I like the name sage as well. it's just so hard to think of a good 1 for me. I don't want to choose 1 name and then hear another beautiful name and then think oh I should have called myself that. Lol. I was even thinking about exotic names from books (I. E. I fantasy football or sci fi). I know I am a nerd. Or fusing two names I liked. I
Keep them coming gals. Hugs!

Well, you could name yourself, if there is one you really like. On the other hand, maybe having your family work together to create a name that they all like would be something meaningful. My name was actually created by my kids and since they like it, there is no difficulty in them remembering it or adopting it. In fact, they go around correcting everyone when they get it wrong. I was gifted with my name and I can't think of anything more special.

I found this wonderful site love, it has all the names that you could think of and their meanings:
http://www.behindthename.com/ (http://www.behindthename.com/)
Isn't picking the name the most tedious, fickle and time comsuming part? DX I've been waffling for so long on a name and I have about three or four that I absolutly love. I have a website with last names too if you need them, though by the sounds of it you're okay in that regard.
