Title: Help! My skin is suffering on HRT
Post by: MeghanV on December 08, 2012, 07:42:54 PM
Is there anybody else out there who is getting intense dry skin and while on HRT? My skin,if I don't moisturize it constantly will become severely dry,and flakey.I went a whole day once without moisturizing and it was a hugh mistake because my skin severely dried out and started to rash and crack as well. I have been on HRT for 22 months now and started to get dry skin within a few months. As the months progressed and my dose increased ,my skin has just become drier and drier. It's very frustrating, uncomfortable and unsightly. My HRT daily doses are;  Estrodiol (split into morning and evening doses,  finasteride and  spironolactone(split into morning and evening doses) At first I thought I was having an delayed allergic reaction or a cross reaction with the other meds I take for depression, ect, but that can be ruled out because I only rash if I don't moisturize frequently thru the day which can be a pain especially when I work and have a social life. I'm going to reduce my dose tonight cuz my doctor said that might help. If you have or had this experience, any advice is hugely beneficial to me. Thanks, Meghan

Yes, HRT will give you dry skin and you do have to moisturize. I use facial moisturizers every day religiously, legs and arms get awfully dry in no time, they get moisturized after every shower or bath or it's bad news.

Hi Meghan  :icon_wave:

Welcome to Susan's  :)  Glad to have you here, It definitely is a good practice to moisturize on a daily basis and also check with your Dr. regarding HRT

Thank you both for you reply and the welcome. I will heed your advice, although, I already do moisturize constantly which does help. My doctor told me that I could reduce my dose so I will be doing that, too!

We aren't supposed to openly discuss dosages here, but I have seen plenty of people get fine results on the lower dose your doctor said you could go to.

However, do be sure you are drinking enough water, few people drink enough, and with most hrt regimes more than enough for normal people is optimal. FWIW my skin always gets dry in the winter, sometimes to extreme levels, even before hrt.

I've seen a big difference in myself between taking E and E with an AA. Add in the AA and my skin, which was really a series of small oil-wells, gushers, went dry. From all I've read typical for T levels dropping. Enough E over enough time will also drop your T down

After 22 months you may be able to start dropping the Spiro dose. I severly cut mine down and the blood workup says very low T. However I can tell if I skip taking it couple of days in a row. My skin starts oozing again and worse, that male stink  returns :(
