Title: Awarded the Dean's Medal
Post by: Cindy on December 14, 2012, 01:23:40 AM

I was awarded the Dean's medal for outstanding contributions to the School. A few hundred people present. He didn't miss a pronoun. Most people knew me before I went FT.
Everyone stood and applauded. Some people were weeping. I got lots of hugs from people.
Nice

It seems wherever you go you make outstanding contributions. The world needs more people like you, well done and congratulations. It must have felt great.

Thank you.
I had to give a few words and I did say that I just tried to make the best of opportunities that arose to help out fellow research people, I also said that I was also fortunate enough to work with people who could let me be me.
That got the applause I think.
I have to admit to being a little nervous.
But as has happened in all my transition, no one has been anything except supportive or ignore me.
And I'm not easy to ignore >:-) >:-) >:-) >:-) meant as a joke

You are a very stroong woman if you were only a little nervous. I would be a nervous wreck in a similar situation, but I guess I have a long way to go to be in a similar situation anyways. If I would have been there to see you I think I would have joined the weeping crowd, what you said is very moving for me.

Thank you Anne and Jenny,
Neither of you have a long way to go before being able to face similar situations. That is the reason I post these things. Not for praise or anything, purely to show if I can do it you can.
I pass as female about as well as the average lamp post. I'm a female guy in female clothes with a male voice and belief in me. I wear very little make up during the day just basic foundation and that is it. OK I no longer need to wear wigs, I have had my grey locks coloured and styled.
I dress for my age. (sadly)
I exude confidence, even when I am SS. I never ever acknowledge being scared.
If I am in a situation that I feel uncomfortable with I will return to it. That I will explain: a number of woman in an area seemed to have problems with me. laughing and joking, but not publicly. I made damn sure I went to that department every day, in the end we even had morning tea/coffee together. I faced my fear. They faced themselves. Their fear was greater.
Both of you are very close to going the next step.
It is one foot in front of another.
That's all
Hugs Sisters

Congrats!
It sounds like the outcome was nowhere near as bad as you feared earlier this week. A standing ovation - now that's a result! :)

Congrats!
Lets stop for a moment and thoughtfully reflect on the personal implications of this moment . . .
Does your award entitle you to hook us up with free lunch at the cafeteria? :D
