Susan's Place Transgender Resources

This past year (12 months - some was done in Dec of last year) I have accomplished a lot in my transition - Started T, legal name change, changed my drivers license gender, had a full hysterectomy, and top surgery.   

For personal reasons, as soon as January rolls around I will be changing my name and gender on my birth certificate and with social security.  I will also look into getting my letter from selective service indicating that I was not eligible to register.  My passport I will get changed the next time I need to leave the country.

Can anyone thing of anything else that I need to do? 

I do need to find a good place to donate my old binders to as well.  From all the money I've spent on them, I don't want to just throw them away!

Damn that is a lot to have accomplished in just a year!

Congraduations on your year Zach, that was a very successful year for you.  Getting two surgeries was great, were you able to get your hysterectomy covered with insurance?  How has the recovery been with both?

I was actually able to get both procedures covered under insurance!  I think my insurance plan is really not going to like me after this year.  Although it would be considered "elective" they were all covered under the GID heading.  Which is wonderful.

So far the healing has been very good.  The hystro I had done 13 days before the top surgery.  I went back to work for a full week before the top surgery and will now be off 3 weeks for the top.  Franky, the hystro was nothing as far as healing goes.  I would get tired easily, but other than that no real pain or bleeding.

So far (day 5) the top surgery hasn't been to bad at all.  Still getting tired really easily but the pain is minimal.  I do know when I've over done it. 

In my opinion, if this is something you can pull off as far as timing, it went really well.  I will have a lot of time to heal and really only have to take off 3 weeks of work.  And this is being covered under short term disability for me.  Which means I just get a really nice extended holiday into January.

Sound great to me, Zach.  How old are you and what reason did you see a surgeon to get a hystro?  I only problem I have is bad cramps the day before and first day of bleeding, which is not enough for most surgeon to do a hystro.

I am 33 and I was able to get the surgery covered under insurance as a GID procedure.  I was having some significant cramping even after starting T, so I did discuss having it covered as medically necessary as well.  However, the surgeon is also my doctor for my hormones.  So she is already familiar with guys wanting those parts removed asap.  I guess there are bonuses to having hormones prescribed by an OB-GYN!
