Title: T under skin
Post by: Jared on December 31, 2012, 08:01:49 AM
My dad gave me my shot yesterday and I think he didn't do it in the muscle just under the skin. Will it work or not?

Why do you think it just went under the skin? Was your dad taught by a medical professional how to properly give you the shot. I'm not sure if it will 'work' but im sure that they they made it intramuscular for a reason. If you are worried, I would call your health care provider.

I almost didn't feel anything and he did it very quickly. He used to give injections for himself a year ago and then a nurse thought him how to but under skin. I couldn't reach anyone who could give me just him. Soon I need to check my T levels anyway, if it will be low it didn't work.

Some people use subQ injections for their T shots, so you might be alright as they don't go into the muscle, but I'm neither on T or medically trained so I don't know.

Next time you could think about doing it yourself then?
Also, one shot isn't going to send your levels through the roof? And besides, you would have had to had your blood drawn on the same day or so, because the T levels are going to drop back down between each shot...There's only a very small percentage of each shot that actually gets absorbed by the body, I believe that it's less that 20% I wouldn't worry about this one shot, but get it done right next time. I don't trust other people to do my shots for this very reason.

I was thinking of this, my flatmate is a nurse and she'll do it but she's at home during the holidays. I ask her to teach me. My doc said I need to check it between the 2 shots  :-X Thank you!

If the medicine was injected only under the skin you would likely feel much more of a lump than normal. If it was injected into the muscle then you might feel a slight lump.

Where was the injection site?
What lengthe needle did you use ?

If he did it in your gluteal muscle you  may not have felt anything because he did it right. My gf does them to where I don't feel anything either. If he went all the way in,aspirated, and didn't get any blood then I wouldn't worry about it.

I've had SubQ shots in my stomach that stung like hell. I would imagine that something thicker like T would sting too if shot in your ass fat.

If I touch it it feels slight. The injection site was my right ass if you mean that. The needle is 18G, I don't know if this the standard notation in everywhere, it's pretty big. My dad even pointed it out why is it so big. He also used to give himself SubQ shots in the stomach, never did it in the muscle before. I think it's alright, I started to feel the signs that it's working.  :D

I think sub-q doesn't get absorbed as much or as fast, or something like that.  My evidence for this is a particular antibiotic I give my sheep sometimes that stings like a b**** and there is quite a difference between their reaction to sub-q versus IM.  (sub-q is considerably easier on them.)

Thank you!
