Title: So ... what are your New Year's resolutions?
Post by: Carlita on January 01, 2013, 06:08:10 AM
I can tell you mine. I'm sick and tired of denying my dysphoria, fighting it, trying to find a 'cure' for it, pretending I can just carry on as if I don't have it. This year, one way or another, I am damn well going to DEAL WITH IT!!

And I feel 90% certain that that means taking the first baby-steps towards my oh-so-long-delayed transition. God knows I've said that a million times before - not least on this forum. But never have I meant it, or wanted it so much ...

But how about you girls/ladies/women/whatever? What are YOU resolving to do in 2013???

I feel the same as Carlita, but the New Year's resolution for me is, that this year will be the year of transition. Should have done that resolution a long time ago, life would have been perhaps quite enjoyable.

My resolution, as it seems to be every year, is to be more understanding and giving and less judgmental and selfish, and to be quicker to listen and slower to talk.

Interesting that I see those as female qualities. So it could be summed up by better living up to my female ideal and give in less to my male nature.

Sounds like a good plan! ... Though I have to say, I know some pretty judgmental and selfish women too!  ;)

Mine is to go full time. Then again I was planning that anyways but i'm starting to think I may do it sooner than expected. This double life thing is really starting to get on my nerves.

Get more bendy, get less scared.
Currently hunting down a friendly yoga teacher, which is a start...

(...found one! I don't hang about...)

My goal is to go full time by September.  With where I am at I don't think I can make it, but at least it givers me a goal to shoot for.

I saw the best one on Facebook last night and it's one everybody can stick to: Remembering to write 2013 instead of 2012.

In all seriousness though, I'd really like to get over these random doubts I have. To finally stop sounding like Mickey Mouse when I try a feminine voice. And to actually find the courage to walk through the door as myself, every day.

I hope to reboot my life by becoming more active, seeking more education, and becoming less scared. Hopefully, doing these things will help me get over depression.

So basically we're going to end the year nicer, kinder, richer, braver, bendier, better educated and full-time girlier than we started it ...

Let's check back in on 31 December and see how it all worked out!

PS: I forgot another really big resolution: I want  to get down to around 150lbs (from around 185 after the Christmas food blow-out) ... so add 'thinner' to the list, too!  :)

I thought about adding that, but I've been losing at the rate of about a half pound every 6 weeks. It's liable to take me a year just to get to 190 and my target is 150-160.

I'm trying the method of eating almost nothing (650-700 calories), two days a week - that's meant to be good for you, as well as getting rid of the pounds. Plus I'm making all my portions a little smaller and cutting right back on red wine. I'm not a big drinker, but a large glass of wine is 300-plus calories, so it's easy to get rid of a couple of hundred calories a day, and that really adds up over the year.

Plus ... I am getting up off my butt and taking more exercise. About time, too!

I think I need to add the more exercise bit because I'm already doing everything else you mentioned and I only drink water, so no calories from beverages. I only exercise about once a week when I go to the store. I walk there and it's a mile a way. If only there was a place where I could buy girly things a mile away. I may end up doing it twice a day!

For me it is to bounce back up into life and get back to where I was before. I need to show everyone that I am getting better mentally because just telling people isn't enough. Also to be more consistent with my training and buidl a more endurance base especially with cycling and swimming, running's already good lol

I really want to be able to transition this year and be able to go full time by first quarter next year. But I fear that my social anxiety will slow me down and prevent me from making it.

I'm working on it. Just asking my cousin to come see me at my home, because I want to come out to her, took all my courage. She said she'll come Friday or Saturday. I'm anticipating this meeting with a little anxiety and excitement as I'm sure she'll accept and help me.

If it helps, my SA has improved sooo much with transition, I feel so much more confident now that I can just be myself. :)

Discovering I'm trans already helped somewhat because I realized the issue came from a bigger problem, being unable to be myself.  Like I said, I'm working on it.

Keep being awesome.  Love everybody, especially people that insist on making it difficult.  Stop thinking I know everything so I can learn more stuff!

Finnish uni, deal better with social anxiety, tell at least 1 person in real life that I'm not happy being a guy, start learning Japanese, eat less chocolate (okay that last one may be asking too much) :)

I would but I think I just gotta finish it and send it to keep my sanity, it's so hard!!

I sent my letter out the family last night.  I loosely based it on a sample that Bev sent me a couple months back (Thank you Beverly) and my wife had our therapist read it.  It was simple and to the point, but referenced the most important aspects of my transition outside the text of the letter.  If you need a copy please Message me.

And yesterday afternoon my wife and I talked to our two adult sons.  I was terrified that my boys would completely reject me, but they didn't.  All they want is my happiness, and to be able to call me Dad when we talk, even after I transition.  I just said "You can call me anything you want."

JoAnn and I raised two incredibly wonderful children.  I really do love my wife and sons.
