Fox News has chosen to publish an article on the Fox Nation website about transgender healthcare that irresponsibly includes a still from the film Mrs. Doubtfire, once again trivializing a serious issue impacting the LGBT community.  Sign this petition and tell Fox News to stop dehumanizing transgender people.  Click here to see a list of recent transphobic stories.

Oregon's largest LGBT civil rights group is circulating a petition focused on Fox News after Fox Nation used a photo from "Mrs. Doubtfire" to illustrate a report on transgender health care issues.

The image of Robin Williams as Mrs. Doubtfire ran under the headline "California and Oregon Insist on Transgender Health Coverage."

The petition circulating by Basic Rights Oregon states, in part, "Fox News: stop misrepresenting gay and transgender people with sensational and dehumanizing coverage. Trivializing transgender people's need for medically necessary health care ignores the position of the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, and countless other authorities on health care. We demand an apology and that Fox News end its transphobic content."

I signed it. I'm not very sensitive, but this bugs me.

This issue was discussed in another topic.  The article talks about the "Fox report."

The article states, BRO executive director Jeana Frazzini called the Fox report "irresponsible" and said, "This is just one of many recent dehumanizing stories Fox has chosen to run about transgender issues."

The problem with this is that the article did not originate with Fox (it is a Associated Press story) and is not the least bit "transphobic" or "irresponsible."  Anyone who actually took the time to read the story, about California and Oregon insurance regulations, would know that.

The use of the Mrs Doubtfire photo representation is questionable, but was it "trivializing" and "dehumanizing"?  Mrs. Doubtfire was a very humane and loving character.

The net effect of signing the petition will amount to nothing more than getting your name and IP address on some mailing list.

I liked the movie. The AP story was okay. I think using the movie to headline the story is pretty disrespectful. From anything but Fox, I'd say "stunningly" disrespectful, but Fox going out of their way to be offensive is sort of antisurprising.
