Title: Things you didn't have to worry about before transition
Post by: Keroppi on January 24, 2013, 05:53:49 AM
What are some of the non-trans related things you've had to worry about since your transition that you wouldn't had to before?

I am planning my first trip abroad since transition and realised I had better check whether my normal choice of clothing (short skirts etc.) would get me arrested or worse! Oh the problem with being a woman.

First trip abroad, woohoo, this will be interesting! :)

Taking a pee outside. It used to be so easy. Just pee on a tree but not anymore. I need a roll of toilet paper if I am going to spend a day in the woods.

Going for a hospital checkup on my waterworks, when my records all say F, but my parts say M :-/

I only needed to bring one or two pairs of pants and a couple of shirts, I did not have to worry about extra luggage.   :D

Now, Shoes, Outfits, not just shirts and pants, makeup, Accessories, and extra bathroom items, I would not trade it for the world.

Walking to my car in front of a bunch of crazy looking men in the hood. Wooo now that's nerve wracking sometimes!

Yup.  I took a WRONG turn down a dark street a block from my old apartment when I was still experimenting.  Large, drunk yet easy to escape from man learned me quick.

Lemmie see, what else:
Remembering where I put my phone last (No more pockets.  Co-Worker already had to bring me it to me from where I left it in the restroom)
Running nylons
What I'm going to do tonight (Before the answer was "nothing" now on occasion I have to choose!)

Men are a-holes. I didn't have to worry about a man running over me because he could just toss me to the side with his muscle. It almost makes being a bitch necessary sometimes.

I used to not worry about what I wore at all. Clothes and shoes to me were disposable and mostly just functional.. shopping was a chore that I did maybe twice a year at most.

Now it's an every day struggle to figure out what to wear. It has to be JUST right. Not really a complaint though, it is a wonderful feeling when you find the right outfit- but a worry nonetheless! I'm not even FT yet, and I already have a major shopping PROBLEM :D

As they say, presentation is everything. I think as trans people we are connected at the hip to this sentiment.

Bras and panties. An obvious one out there. oh and sagging boobs (too young for that right now though).
Hmmm... Walking down to 7-11 at night people seem to think I am a prostitute, and this one night it was really really hot out and I was sweating and nobody was around so I unbuttoned my shirt and got a stalker. u.u
When I used to go on dating websites if I got asked to dinner I had to choose where I would like to go.

(Already... :D)
Colors. Leg pains. Low blood pressure. The shape of glasses. Bras. Jeans. Emotional scenes. (even just barely... the first scene in Ni No Kuni, where Oliver's mum dies, set me off the other day)

Whether or not I'm living in sin. (May not apply to everyone)

The what to wear for work stuff. I never thought that would be something.

Oh doing my hair, blow dry, style etc, I never knew what 'hair products' were. My hairdresser asked me what products I used. I told him I didn't do drugs!! We shat ourselves when he explained. :embarrassed:

I used to get up an hour before I left for work, forget it.

The really big one was this week end. I had a lot of stuff to clear from my house and garden, so I ordered in a skip to fill.

I'm totally exhausted. My upper body strength has gone totally. I was shocked, I went to lift a dead microwave, I had carried it into the house a few years ago. Now I couldn't lift it!! I had ask a neighbour for help.

My fore-arms are in agony!

And the strangest thing?  I kept worrying how I looked! And when I needed to pop out to the shop for something it was ' Oh do I need a shower, should I get changed?

Geex guys just go to the shop in their sweaty work stuff and do it.

Hmmm.

LOVE IT.

Oh, you mean the boring push overs? :D

coming from experience, they just need some direction :P  Once I learned to be the heartless bitch, they(the ladies) all suddenly wanted me! hah hah hah.  Go figure....

Hair spray...... yes..

Before, I wouldn't have even cared.... brush and go....

Now?  Spray spray spray, perfect?  Ok!  Then 30 minutes later, comb, spray, and continue.  hour later, rinse and repeat.    Lol!

Don't remind me Cindy, I spend an absolute fortune on my hair, volumizing shampoo, conditioner, 2 different hair sprays, volumizing hair spray, then color and highlights, hubby just gets a cheap haircut.
Before just throw on jeans without comment, now its ''does my butt look big in this''

telling guys that I'm not like other girls, remembering to take my pills everyday and making sure I don't have on things that clash or have worn too recently.

Many things haven't changed, I still get ready for work quickly, don't spend much time on hair or makeup.
