Title: Sense of taste and smell since starting estrogen
Post by: kathy bottoms on February 19, 2013, 11:30:51 AM
Something Penny Gurl said in another post about intensified tastes on E made me think.  How many of you also have a greater sense of smell and taste?  And has it changed what you eat?

Noticed smells more right away. Doesn't seem to have affected taste.

yes I noticed this, I ironically LOST my sweet tooth and preferred savoury things more, the changes in my sense of smell were one of the first thing I noticed (Like within 48 hours) how I was more sensitive to the smell of male body odour particularly but also a general increase in sense of smell.

I remember after I first started that after About a month everything just tasted so much better and while I didn't crave most sweets I did start craving milk chocolates.

Smell and taste are inexorably linked.  If one loses their sense of smell, their taste sensation is seriously impaired.

Well since I was mentioned I figured i should chime in.   ;). I really noticed smells kick in first.  I thought it was a bit odd that I could actually "smell" men.  Now I knew what some of my girlfriends were talking about when they caught the sent of a guy.  Granted not all smells are good...  :embarrassed:  taste became .. Well complex, it seemed like there were more subtle favors in things.

Yeah, I noticed the sense of smell first, and my wife started to complain that I'd smell things she couldn't.

Also, did anyone find they craved or at least eat a lot of stuff you never used to eat?  I could never stand pickles or onions, but now I need them on hamburgers and other things.  Still can't eat mushrooms.

I never lost my sense of smell, but I do think things smelled different and tasted different.  I know there are medications that will change your sense of taste as a side effect, one med says you might get a metalic taste in things.

I don't remember my sense of taste and smell changing at all. I've always had a good sense of smell. Then again, I had absolutely no expectations when I started estrogen back then. But I also think some things can change through suggestion alone.
