Susan's Place Transgender Resources

Well, I'm once again looking for a gender therapist. I think it'll go a lot better this time around since I've been through it before and will probably not be as nervous as I was the first time. I honestly can't wait to find one, unlike before where I dreaded the notion of openly talking to someone about this. I am also considering going with a female therapist this time since I had felt somewhat awkward from the onset last time with a male therapist. I couldn't get past my lifelong need to fit in, so I would never be able to shed my male-ness enough to feel comfortable around him.

Thank you zombies. At this point, I'm so content with myself about all of this that I think even if I HAD to get a male therapist I would be able to be more open and forthcoming.

I contacted one therapist yesterday and am still waiting for a response. I'm going to contact others today. Let's see where I end up.

It's more important that your therapist be personally compatible than what gender they are.  My therapist happens to be female, and that was important to me at one time.  But my general psych teacher is a professional therapist, and we have had a number of discussions so that I know I would have no problems seeing him professionally.

All of my usual doctors are women but I did not do that on purpose, it just worked out that way.
